I cannot believe someone this great got elected to anything in the US. Could you all please just get behind her movement in a big way and actually solve your poo poo. She sounds like a true left-wing working class progressive from the european social democratic movements of the 50's and 60's that quite literally built these northern european socialist utopias you all talk about and it's absolutely glorious. Her style of delivery is very different, but she reminds me a lot of Obama in 2004. It's definitely possible she could make a serious run for president in the future. It's a harder hill to climb from the House than the Senate, but it's more about media attention than actual credentials, and so far she is getting a lot of it.

But odds are still long.

Don't we also have like 10 years before she's of the legal age to be President? Like I'm for real down with Prez AOC but it's a while before we get there.

She’s 29 right now, so 2024 would be the absolute earliest since she’d turn 35 less than a month before the election.

That’s assuming there’s no legal issue with a 34 year old running?

Pretty sure as long as you’re 35 by the day you take the oath of office, you’re eligible.

Assuming the democrats win the White House in 2020 she’s looking at 2028 at the earliest.

She’d only be eight years younger than Obama when he became president. So definitely in the realm of possibility.

The focus of the media, and indeed this thread, is certainly on AOC - and it's not hard to see why; but I would dearly love to hear more about the other new congress members - what they are doing, what they are passionate about, what opportunities they are being given or are taking. I'd like to believe that it wasn't just one young, passionate, intelligent person was elected - but a whole class of them!

I get more and more confident in my feeling that powerful people within the NYT are Nazi sympathizers. There's just too many "look this Nazi is human like you and me" stories and headlines contrasted with almost no similar level of introspective elsewhere. That is combined with their clear attitude that GOP governence is the baseline and anything that keeps that going (bullshit non crisies, what happened in WI) is fine or just business as usual. Then you get into Maggie constantly having a "it was a good week for Trump!" statement ready for when he looks weak and a literal white supremacist OPED yesterday.

It has some good journalists but the leadership is incredibly questionable and frankly there are some worrisome indications.

That expose the Daily Beast did on Milo as he was reaching terminal velocity in his post-pedo career tailspin had a fascinating sub-plot weaved through it and that was how Access Journalists like Olivia Nuzzi worked their asses off to ingratiate themselves to Milo and become his friends despite knowing he was a toxic white supremacist. I think it is endemic to the system, they don’t know how to properly respond to actual fascists so they divide by zero mentally and try to make friends with the fascists, because Almighty Access. Maggie demands her precious Access.

"You treat her like a lady... and she'll always bring you home."
Chuck Schumer's up for reelection in 2022. Maybe he'll retire (he'd be 72) but probably not. Gillibrand's not up until 2024, but the seat may become vacant if, y'know, some national political office gets her. Cuomo's up for reelection in 2022 also, and is probably more vulnerable to a good leftist primary challenge than Schumer. If AOC is serious about all this, being a good House member for four years and then kicking Cuomo to the curb in '22, getting some executive experience, and running for president in '24 or '28 depending on the national environment is probably the "easiest" path.

See the thing is, they've always been this sort of lovely. Looking up the NYT from circa 1900-1945 proves it. I follow an account on the Twitter called 'On this Day in Nazi Germany' which is run by someone with full times historical access and they've been posting up article snippets from the run up to WWII and nothing has changed. We're up to 1938 so you can figure where things are at and just how dry the NYT is about it. They didn't have an alarming tenor about the actual loving Nazis, they're not going to have it for our dime store Nazis.

Political office should not be a loving profession in a Democracy and we need leaders that are relevant and still in touch with the needs of younger generations. Asking her to wait her turn until she is older plays into this stupid cultural trap that "age= experience = better at everything, suck it young folk"

By the time someone like AOC is old enough to be considered presidential material (which is honestly going to be more in the 40's), most of the demographics that would keep her from being president will have been hollowed out by death from old age. Severely.

Millennial governance, when it comes, will make Republicans regret every decision they made after 1993. It's going to be outright cruel to them.
