They have three dlc's sold in the season pass so they can't entirely just walk away from this trash fire, I would think.

I think part of the problem is that it didn't even sell well in the first place; nobody's talking about his game, there is no buzz anywhere positive or negative. This is a non-game that no-one cares about.

It's gonna be $20 during the spring Steam sale.

Maybe $30 this winter sale if their initial sales are bad enough.

To add to it I actually liked racing, wing suit etc. challenges in JC3. They are essentially absent from JC4.

The challenges in this game are a joke. Every wingsuit challenge I've seen so far asks a mere *three* rings of you, not even any sharp turns or whatever.

EDIT: Okay, two more things I like about this game: crazy movie director lady and also the fact that there are women soldiers. I prefer goons to be more than just sausage fests.

What I can't stand about the wingsuit is that fast roping into a wall is immediate death and Rico doesn't have any reaction to hitting the ground at slow speeds other than "ragdoll and take an unreasonable amount of damage". Considering you can cut your parachute, land on your knees and survive pretty cleanly, you'd think the dude would be able to kick off a wall or roll across the ground to recover in style. Wingsuiting is fun and one of the additions that I really liked in 3, but it does feel shaky from time to time.

You know, I really didn't like Just Cause 3 at the time, but maybe I should give her another try now. JC4 might have just achieved the impossible and softened my perception of that game. Scary thought.

I liked 3 but I uninstalled it when I formatted my computer and when I reinstalled it it hadn’t kept my save game on the cloud, even though you needed to connect to the internet to play it. So that was that.

I will pick this up though on special I reckon. It’s really cinematic and also it just objectively rules to surf a plane into something, blowing it up.

I got JC3 for PS4 on release and the load times were super long like 2 minutes (on an SSD) that it made the challenges pretty much unplayable. I returned it pretty quick.

What upsets me is that this is a series that really deserved more and better. I know it's never been the most profitable or well-known series, but it fulfilled a niche in the open world genre that not many games try these days and many of the contemporaries - E.G Mercenaries, Red Faction: Guerrilla, The Saboteur - have fallen to the wayside. While GTA5 and RDR represent the peak of immersive open-world gameplay with a ton of attention to detail and interesting AI routines and Saints Row is a sillier, fun-filled take on the crime genre (I hope it returns and goes back to a SR2 vibe, though I enjoyed all the games in the series), Just Cause is the only contemporary open world game that focuses almost entirely on explosive destruction, physics-abusing gadgets and acting like a total dick while the game grins alongside you and encourages it.

There's always been criticism about its goofy story, its dull plot, the fact that most of the fun is derived from the player's creativity rather than core mechanics and all the jank that comes with abusing the system, but JC2 (And I guess 3, so many people seem to like it) are just fun. It's weird to say but it's rare in high budget games to have a game where it just wants the player to have fun. It knows why you're here and it wants you to get to it as soon as possible, and it's so, so weird that that's apparently a formula that can possibly be hosed up. I can't claim to know what the development culture is like under Squeenix or how it works in Avalanche, but I just don't understand how badly they misread what the appeal of the series is.

It's a game that outright states that it's about chaos and then takes away the targets that you're supposed to cause it against. It's a game about explosions but they cut down tremendously on the amount of things that explode. It's a game about fighting against a regime but when you start wrecking joints the response is anaemic rather than a flood of craziness for you to battle around. How do you preach these messages and then completely ignore them? How do you lose sight of the basic idea that blowing stuff up = good when your explosions look, sound and feel so good?

Again, I still enjoy JC4. I'm refusing to play it until it's patched, if they ever choose to do so, and I'm excited to gently caress around with the physics and abuse the denizens of the world. I've already gotten a bunch of full-on laughs with some of the dickish things I've done, but looking at the game you just can't help but feel sad that this is probably going to be the death knell for a series that could've hung with the big boys as a scrappier, more carefree alternative.

If Rage 2, headed by the Avalanche A-Team, turns out to be a success, I really hope they can go back and give it another crack. Show 'em how it's really done. Realistically? I don't see why Squeenix would even bother.

The landscape of JC4 in itself looks generally pretty fine. The lovely water doesn't do it service, nor does that stupid heat/humidity haze effect, that makes everything look worse.

Also, there's a guy that compared JC3 vs JC4, and in my opinion, the JC3 character model of Rico looked way better. Why the hell did they even remodel it? It's their own asset.

I finally took the time to start really customizing the retractor arm thing and I realized I was using guns way, way too often. Always be shooting boosters onto everything and every one.

It takes me forever to do anything in this game because I'm either laughing at poo poo or having too much fun wingsuiting around town. It's more fun to torture the helicopters than it is to explode them.

I was afraid I wouldn't be as agile without a mouse but the movement / turning quickly with a controller is excellent.

I quite enjoy JC4

I think a lot of design choices are right and good and actually show incentive to progress the series in the right direction. They did a lot to just overthink core stuff from the series and tried (and succeeded!) to make them more fun. I'm really happy they got rid of a lot of those stupid open world default bullshit things every other game already has.

Yeah it has issues, but the internet hate machine is once again overdoing it massively. I don't get where that even comes from. JC1 was already mediocre (basically the best thing about it was that you could fly an airplane 4 times the largest driveable vehicle in GTA III at that point in time), 2 was a lot better and for the time beeing OKAY but there was nothing to do in the world except blowing poo poo up. AI and physics where ALWAYS odd and totally unrealistic in that series, but all the loving sudden people get really mad about it. JC3 was just the worst, also with tons of performance and visual issues, not to mention all the questionable design choices of an tremendously stupid backstory and the worst progression gating there could be.

Yeah they should've maybe delivered a more polished engine as they did with Mad Max. But I'm really happy that they made the core experience fun and mostly unique.

Still want to turn off that horrible motion blur and want better AA obviously. That poo poo is insanely ugly.

PAM PA RAM

PAM PAM PARAAAAM!

Making 97% of the missions timer based was a stupendously idiotic idea, the controls are dog poo poo, the UI is dog poo poo, movement somehow feels worse than ever(wingsuiting is so loving slow holy poo poo, still can't dodge roll, can't even do basic QOL things like mantling over ledges and the like), ammo is extremely scarce, no grenades, C4 is grapple only now, weather turned out to be a total gimmick that's barely used etc etc.

Glad you're enjoying it though!

Again I want to state that I did enjoyed what I played and I intend to play more of it, but there is zero excuse that it should've been released in the state that it was. At the risk of sounding like a broken record it's actually unfathomable how it ended up that way when prerelease footage is so drastically different, and to not make a comment about how it got that way is just downright insulting. Rather than "We're listening and we'll fix it, sometime, eventually!" they really should've gone "Hey we hosed up, this is what we think is causing it, we're sorry that things aren't what you expected".
