So are those claims considered accurate at this point? Nice month! Three carriers and one BB if so.

Trading ships.

This is a very rare ship, a floating dry dock. The US only gets a handful, I think fewer than half a dozen, and as far as I know the Japanese only get the one. I'm not sure what the stats are on it - the low points value suggests that it may be too small to be useful. The full-sized ones that the US gets are great. I can't find any information about the irl version of this ship online.

Additionally 1944 in game was 2012 in LP.

I just remember it well because it was the same time I was fed up with my old job and started interviewing elsewhere. Then a new place of employment, 6 years later and two promotions I'm much happier.

Rabaul is still seeing a lot of air to air combat, and it's no longer going my way.

We do bring down another Liberator though!

That's a lot of Hell divers. That's at least two fleet carriers. Even if I had the planes I'd think twice about engaging this force!

I'm loading two large forces to attack Manus, but there is little I can do about those carriers!

I wonder if any subs remain I can send out? The answer is of course no.

The enemy try and land troops at Manus, but my fast transport squad drive them off.

At Truk, the Arizona savages our airfield, but the fortress does a good amount of damage to the allied battleship.

At least we got a torpedo in before we got hit.

I hope those are tanks!

Take that!

TOE of Truk Naval fort shows a total of 62 coastal defense and dual purpose guns, from heavy cruiser to destroyer size.
4 heavy cruiser guns (8")
23 light cruiser guns ~6" (3x15.5cm, 19x15cm, 4x14cm)
31 destroyer guns (27x12.7cm, 4x12cm)
4 smaller 8cm

That doesn't seem like very many guns at all. For the so called 'Gibraltar of the Pacific', thats less guns at a major fleet anchorage then was at Iwo.

According to the 'pedia, Iwo only had 33 naval guns of 8cm caliber or greater

edit: Gibraltar only had 8 9.2" and some number of 6" guns (I found 14 as a number from WWI)

... Is it possible to get more heavy caliber guns to Truk as they seem to be doing an excellent job of whatever they're doing?

And are you in any shape there to try and get some airstrikes in on the Arizona and the Repulse presuming they stay within air range in the next couple turns if you can throw together some bombers?

I catch another task force one hex from Rabaul – loaded with troops and going down.

We follow up and finish off the stragglers. Just another day in the Imperial navy.

Another force takes out some unloaded ships.

Another suicide run.

One of our ships takes a hit.

Any day a couple of thousand Allied troops go down with their ships is a good one!

That was a proper slaughter!

So the Allies tried to send a troop landing that was mostly unescorted (okay the DE's with the task force count as an escort) to land at Rabaul.

Nothing new there.

Any chance of landing some heavy weapons to Rabaul to join in the shelling?

Nah, both were Fletchers, so actual proper and modern destroyers.

Only another 127 or so to go (counting those that are assumed sunk, Grey's sunk 48 so far, vs. a historical 19 sunk + 6 beyond repair). :v:

I use them to guard forward bases. Half a dozen PT boats can be the difference between a base getting quietly taken overnight and the landing force getting scared off or at least delaying long enough for reinforcements to arrive.

In my game, PT boats actually crippled Shokaku when it sailed too close to Canton Island at night in early 42.

wedgekree

PT boats are useful as they're super cheap, make for effective pickets, and every now and then they get lucky wtih a torpedo strike. At least in multiplayer games they seem to be popular as just put one per hex around a base to slow down surface raiders.
