I feel like there's not exactly a huge multitude of white collar crimes just waiting to be prosecuted if we could just only please have backdoor access to every electronic device please. "Your wages will increase because of these tax cuts" is another fun thing the government says too.

Which is why this law is laughable. Inserting known errors into encryption scheme's to enable backdoors basically means the encryption could be easily broken without needing to use the backdoor.
