Wait when did Saskatoon pass both Winnipeg and Thunder Bay? That is... honestly really sad.

According to the Statscan murder rates per 100,000, Thunder Bay was at 5.80 vs. Saskatoon's 1.52 last year.

Regina is typically deadlier than Saskatoon, though Sask does sometimes get over 3.0.

Winnipeg and Edmonton also typically hover around the 3.0 mark.

In 2014, Thunder Bay's homicide rate per 100,000 was 9.03.

Of course, Toronto leads in raw numbers, with north of 80 murders per year typically. In 2017 there were 92, accounting for 14% of all homicides in Canada, but the rate per 100,000 was 1.47

I'd be cool with pulling all Christmas songs from the radio, and especially from store playlists.

Many years ago I worked part time at a Canadian Tire in the fall.

They used to just play the local radio station over the instore PA system.

Then in mid november it all changed.

A single CD was put on repeat. It was kids badly singing popular carols. The CD didn’t even last an hour.

I had a similar experience working at a grocery store back in the early 2000s.

The worst part was there was a skip in the CD and it would bug out for a few seconds at the start of "All I Want For Christmas Is You" every hour.

Same thing at Real Canadian Superstore some 10 years ago. I absolutely hate Paul McCartney's "simply having a wonderful Christmas time" more than anything from working there. That stupid synth line still stirs up hatred when I hear it. Night-shift employees started sabotaging the P.A. system to save us from the torture, bless their hearts.

Christmas music is an abomination.

The way people have been talking about "baby it's cold outside," you would think that the government passed a law banning its public airing, followed by armed raids of record shops by police.

I haven’t seen any internet hate mobs wanting to ban that stupid Christmas song. I have seen 8000 articles about how banning songs is bad followed by a 5 paragraph explanation about the song. It’s not even a ban, some radio stations took the song off because they want to be woke. No one would have even noticed if they didn’t immediately run and tell every media outlet.

Dear Justin Trudeau,

I am a 26 year old waitress who worked in one of the biggest oilfield hubs in Alberta, Grande Prairie. I worked in a pub during the evenings. We were open 7 days a week. Pretty much every night we were packed with these ‘construction workers’ and ‘oilfield lowlives.’ You want to know what kind of social impact they had on me? I am a female in this social setting you are referring to after all. Because of these men, I was able to go grocery shopping and get everything on my list. I didn’t have to stand at the check out line and figure out what to put back. I was able to fill up my tank at the gas station, not just $20 to get by. I was able to live comfortably in an apartment knowing my bills were paid on time and I wouldn’t have to worry about choosing between the water or electric bill. I was one of the waitresses, cooks, drivers, hotels, grocery stores, local business owners etc who are impacted by these men. Everyday. When these men leave, we have to cut staff. We have to tell someone they can’t help support their families, they have to tell their kids they can’t afford extra curricular activities such as hockey, soccer, etc. Local business owners are then forced to close their doors. Shame on you for demonizing these men AND women who take time away from their families to provide for them. For working 12+ hour days only to go to a hotel room at night hoping to catch their kids before bedtime for a little FaceTime. We are not all cut out for white collar office jobs. They love what they do. They love getting their hands dirty, the job satisfaction is bar none. These men do this so that their families are taken care of, and in turn, that waitresses like me can do the same.
I do hope you read this so you know first hand what kind of social impact these ‘construction workers’ have on us women in rurual areas.

Oh, and by the way, those construction workers were also some of the most polite and well mannered customers I serve.

Sincerely,

Sarah Michel, waitress at Crown & Anchor Pub, Grande Prairie Alberta

John Manley really dropping the veil here.

https://twitter.com/stevenchase/status/1071460341001936897

quote:

...
During a panel on CTV’s Question Period airing Sunday, Manley said that Canada in his view has never been "as alone in the world as we are now," and that Canada needs China for economic reasons because of how unreliable the United States has shown itself to be as an economic partner.

"China is the way we validate the policy of diversification or trade and economic interests. There's no other choice," Manley said.

Canada has moved towards formally engaging China in free-trade talks, though they stalled late last year, with little movement since. Meanwhile, U.S. President Donald Trump has engaged China in a trade war and added in a controversial clause to the new NAFTA deal that requires those in the deal to notify the other countries should they enter into a free trade agreement with a "non-market" country. This has largely been called the "China clause," and has thrown into question how it could impact a future trade deal with the Asian nation.

The arrest happened last Saturday, the same day Trump and China's Xi Jinping announced a temporary trade truce.

"China is the second largest economy in the world, we need to have our own China policy driven by our own national interests. And unfortunately we've got ourselves caught in a situation where our China policy is being very much fashioned by some hardliners in Washington," Manley said.

"The Trump administration takes a very different very hard line view and we're caught in the middle of it and that's not good for us."

Manley said that in accordance with international obligations and Canada's extradition treaty with the U.S., Canada had to act, though he questioned whether it would have been a good time for some "creative incompetence."

"This woman was not residing in Canada, she was simply transferring flights in Canada, and we might have just missed her," Manley said.
