Are you a fan of doddering? Al can't really move or sing that well any more. Local rumor had him lip syncing in their last tour.

I saw him w/ DeathGrips maybe last year, and ya. He didn't sing much. More like singing along to the pre-recorded vocals than lip syncing.

Also, Carpenter Brut didn't make the Denver show this go around. Pissed a lot of people of as it went unannounced and Live Nation wouldn't refund since the ticket technically only states ministry.

Looking back at my own teenage years, I doubt having two geriatrics drag me off to watch an even more decrepit old man mumble and waddle around a stage trying to scrape together money for a hip replacement would have done much to convince me that the genre was anything resembling cool. Isn't there a live show with a band that is still alive you could take him to instead?

So what does everyone think of the Radioaktivists album? I've been anticipating this release ever since hearing 'Pieces of Me' on one of the Dependence compilations.

It's alright.

Just started it ... my brother mentioned that Pieces of Me is worse on the album than the old single. I needed/wanted this album to be better.

I'm feeling a bit lost in this genre. I've gotten into the post-anthematic Project Pitchfork, but they're not blowing me away. Last Covenant was actually loving great, and A23 was pretty drat good. The last Ashbury Heights did grow on me, but it's not mind-blowing.

It's been a while since I've been seriously excited by new music. Last times really were discovering electro-clash and future-pop really, just been riding those laurels for some time.

If you want far left EBM, look into a band called Groupe T. They only released a couple of albums and aren't active any more, but they were openly far left and pretty good musically imho. They have one album free on their website and I think you can find the others (legally) free elsewhere if I remember rightly.

I’m trying to remember the name of a modern band that I think I saw from this thread. It was an extremely Cabaret Voltaire inspired duo. The only other lead I have to go on is that the video featured one of them enthusiastically “dancing” pretty loving badly. One of them might have had glasses?

Does that ring any bells for somebody?

The Radioaktivists album is exactly what I expected without exceeding my expectations in any way, with this weird listless quality to it. Spinath has never sounded excited to be there, even when he’s singing about a plane crashing into a circus and wiping out the clowns, but he barely sounds awake in these songs.

Festivals have been so helpful for me to find new (to me) music. Sure, Amphi Festival is probably at least 50% German pirate ship buttrock by volume, but also I would not have known about Spetznaz or Wulfband without it. Likewise I became interested in Maschinenfest primarily because Architect was playing but it helped me really get into groups like Orphx, Hypnoskull and Iszolosphere. But I know what you mean about feeling isolated in the genre - even at festivals it seems like I’m never there for the same bands that the rest of the crowd is.

Radioaktivists has a few songs I like on it, but it mostly made me want another Edge of Dawn album.

Except for stuff that has come out in the past couple months (the new Kaelan Mikla album is really good) I'm going to need some year-end lists to even remember what released this year. Otherwise I'm still mostly basking in 2017 albums at the moment.

Looking forward to 2019 though, there's new Boy Harsher coming out in February:

I really like Die Selektion (may even have been someone in this thread who recommended them). I've seen them described as Cold-Wave or a kinda moody EBM. But what really sets them apart is that they actually have a guy who plays the trumpet. It works really well imo.

Just happen to be listening to No Sleep Demon (2.0) at the moment, because I want to put a track on a mix for someone...

But it reminds me how awesome Spinath's vocals were there. It's like the subtlest of differences.

And sidenote, I still can't get over how much I hate the song about a plane crashing into a circus and wiping out the clowns ... it basically ruined the album for me. I just don't get it at all and I find it infinitely distracting. I was loving obsessed with the band, and that one lyric just weirded me out too much.

Eh, I agree No Sleep Demon and some of the Edge of Dawn stuff was peak Spinath but Radioaktivists has grown on me the past couple of weeks.

It's in my daily playlist right now which means I'll be sick of it by Friday.

I think he just found his voice after a while and pretty much hasn't deviated from it for the past 10 or so years. The earlier stuff was better because it was slightly more 'raw'.

Edit - The track you're putting on the mix is Avalost, isn't it.

I just bought tickets to see them here in February, but they're with a band called NGHTCRWLR that I haven't found anything about other than a soundcloud with a couple demos and the facebook page of NGHTCRWLRS who are upset that they exist at all.

If you're doing minimaly stuff there's a recent album from SIGSALY that's worth a go too.

Same, I was really enjoying Speak in Storms and A Grown Man in particular is a great song that I can't get into because of the clowns thing. The album still has a lot to offer, but I feel like (just like the Radioaktivists album) the real highlights were already on Dependence compilations. Deluxe version is best version just because of that awesome Dead When I Found Her remix (which incidentally is how I first heard of DWIFH)

Incidentally based on this thread it would seem that Boy Harsher is touring literally the entire world. They'll be coming through my area with Kontravoid in March :toot:
