Can someone smarter than me tell me why we don't switch the upper and lower houses?

Seems to me that having the PM voted in by a larger pool of voters, with a more proportional system, makes more sense than them essentially being chosen by a single rich suburb in Sydney.

Maybe I don't pay enough attention but I feel like in general senators seem to be less crazy than MPs.

It's not just chance that the senate is full of crazies, the proportional representation system makes it easier for them to get in as they only have to get a small percentage of the state-wide vote rather than win a 2PP contest in a single seat. Having one of the houses be easier for minor parties and independents to get into isn't a bad idea, but it wouldn't work very well to try and form government out of it.

I'M CONCERNED ABOUT A NUMBER OF THINGS

Didn't they have to paint the fuel trucks bright white to reflect as much sun as possible, as the fuel being too hot caused explosions? The JSF program has been an absolute gift.
They use the fuel as a heat sink instead of radiating it from the outside of the aircraft where it can be spotted by heat seeking missiles. When the fuel has been sitting in tanks in the sun heating up it has less capacity to store heat so the planes were either overheating or becoming decidedly unstealthy to anyone with infra red cameras. It’s actually a pretty cool concept, they just didn’t think it through too well.

The biggest issue for mine is the complexity of keeping the loving things airborne, any prolonged conflict against a roughly equivalent adversary is going to completely gently caress up the supply chains needed get all the fancy paint and other highly specialised replacement parts up to the active airfields. The Battle of Britain pushed the RAF’s logistics to their absolute limits and half of its aircraft were made of fabric; I’d be surprised if the climate controlled hangers needed to allow the daily coats of stealth paint to cure lasted more than a week in a high intensity conflict.

there’s absolutely a cadre of broken people online that spend most of their waking hours angsting over things like the lyrics of whatever that christmas song is instead of things that actually matter to the real lives of the homeless and working poor

the problem is that these little culture wars are played out between extremely small groups of extremely online people so they shouldn’t attract anywhere near as much attention as they do but it’s the exact kind of thing that journalists love: divisive (gets clicks/viewers) and harmless to power (doesn’t piss off the boss)

Anecdotal, but I hear social skills training actually helps a lot.

E.g. How to be a good friend, how to recognise when someone isn't being a good friend to you or others around you, what to do when you don't like someone, how to tolerate The Weird Kid, how to behave when you're angry and want to be left alone, etc.

People seem to think kids innately learn these things when actually they don't, they just observe others and trial and error their way through with a bit of adult direction. I think adults actually take most social skills for granted and don't realise a lot of social lessons need to be explicitly taught.
