The rest of us still use them all the time. At least so far every top of the line "gaming" keyboard that is tenkeyless also has a full form model. Most people dont need them, they just like to pretend they are an esport athlete who travels with their mouse and keyboard.

they're useful if you're very limited on desk space or you do actually travel with your keyboard a lot. I personally prefer them because it lets me keep my hands closer together but the numpad is kind of essential for a lot of things

If you ever need to punch in a whole lot of numbers, the numpad lets you do it real fast with a single hand. Also pretty nice with calculator apps since the operators also have their own dedicated keys. Outside of data entry they're less compelling, but some games are much easier to play using numpad (think roguelikes with diagonal movement) and in the past I've used the numpad as essentially a set of dedicated macro keys for games that permit custom binds.

Has anyone copied the Sidewinder X8's vertical thumb button placement yet? Mine's finally starting to double-click after like eight years of flawless performance so it might be time to look into replacement. G502's G4/sniper-button placement looks like it might be the closest outside MMO mice with a button grid. I might just dive on a G602 since it's half-off with free shipping on the Logitech site right now.

So I bought a Logitech trackball (the entry level one) to see how it is, since occasionally at work I'm starting to get some discomfort in my mousing wrist and I'm re-evaluating the ergonomics of my home and work offices. It feels IMMENSELY better, but I am struggling with precision and speed with it - granted I've only used it about 30 minutes, but it just seems like it'll be impossible to fully wrap my head around. Does it get better and I'm just a simpleton incapable of understanding that? Or is there a reason that mice became the predominant form of input device for a computer?

It gets better for sure. Be one with the inertia of the ball. Thats the only advice i can give.

I feel like mice became dominant mostly because of optical mice which didn't need you to gently caress around with cleaning the balls (or the rods which I found was usually the culprit rather than the balls themselves). Haven't used a trackball enough to ever need to perform maintenance on one but I assume they're the same way, albeit with less frequency since the ball isn't rolling across the desk to pick up more dust.

Very occasionally. Like once a year. A quick qtip wipe on the rollers and you're done.

I am about to order a LogitechG Pro wireless but it seems to have some doubleclick issues in quite some cases. It doesnt develop, you have it or you dont. Polls I have seen show 88% of owners reporting no issues. If you poll only people who bought in the last month its even better. The only real USB power issues that arise are between non-compliant devices, like "novelty" electronics that really just have a USB port for convenience. These are things like lights, fans, paper shredders (yes really, I have one around here somewhere) that pull power from a USB source without being actual USB devices themselves. Proper USB devices negotiate power, including voltage (e.g. 5, 9, 12, 20 V) and current.

I tried to find a new mouse before to replace my heavy G502, trying and eventually reselling or returning the G900, G403, and the G Pro. Eventually I decided to cut a bunch of holes into my G502 to lighten it up and stuck with that for a couple years. I bought the G Pro Wireless and uh, yeah, it's the perfect mouse. I guess it could be cheaper, or have some more features, but weight/shape/click wise it's so good that I end up not thinking about it.

Happy 2019, mouse thread goons! Reading through the past couple pages and notice a few of you having issues with Logitech mice double-clicking. My 2-year old G700s (which was a warranty replacement for my G700) also developed the issue, but it didn't start getting REALLY bad until this past week. I've contacted Logitech support and they are offering to replace it with the G703. This seems like a huge downgrade to me, and the Amazon reviews aren't promising either - many of which state the same double-click issue crops up (including a finicky scrollwheel which my G700s has as well.) I also don't want to go from 4 thumb-buttons on my G700s (all of which I use constantly) back down to 2 thumb-buttons on the G703. I asked if they have any other mice to offer but I'm still waiting to hear back. I really hate the visual direction they took with the G900 series as well, which also are getting slammed due to double-clicking issues. Seems like the past few years haven't been kind for Logitech - I still fondly remember the many years of superb use with my MX518. My co-worker let me try out his Logitech MX Master 2S and it feels pretty decent, and at least has 3 thumb-buttons (and a side-scroll which could be useful) but I doubt Logitech would offer that for my G700s. And thank you for turning me onto the G Pro, it looks great and has the buttons and features I'd need - definitely an expensive option though. I'll check back if they offer any other models. If I decide to ditch Logitech for good this time, what are some of the higher quality brands, preferably with a Logitech-level warranty? I've never had good luck with Razer products, which have been the only other keyboard+mouse brand I've tried (at least since my first-gen Microsoft Intellimouse!) I'm looking into the new wireless Steel Series Rival 650 which looks good but has a bunch of features I'm not sure I'd really use.

If it's gaming zowie is just about the only universally liked mouse brand without some major problem. Razer and Logitech are both fine. They just sell so much product that the sample size of defective ones seems bigger. If you are going wireless, the g pro is the only lightweight low latency low power draw mouse on the market. Personally I don't like steelseries based on my personal bad experience with repeated defects on the same device through multiple rmas. Also you can't really find the mouse you like and stick with it over the years because they keep overhauling their design

Razer QA might be debatable due to volume but their customer support is generally recognized as being quite poor. And don't even try to defend their driver suite. Microsoft mice are boring but good quality. If you don't need specialist features they're worth considering.
