Grey's just tired of waiting for the allies to invade, so he sent his troops to fight them where they are: the bottom of the sea

An entire division that appears to have been loaded on 10 knot AKLs, no less :psyduck:

Loss of an IJA division, c'est la vie. Let's get to the more important question: how irreplaceable are those xAKs and LSTs? How much does that delay the IJN's inevitable victory?

No kidding, you shredding an unescorted convoy with surface raiders is just another day in the office but the AI actually sinking something in return is shocking.

I think I remember reading that it's actually not that hard for Japan to make up ground losses because they're not limited by small pools like some allied countries. This was in the context of someone on the matrix forums successfully capturing southern California in a PBEM game but eventually losing all the units he sent there, which didn't seem to set him back too much.

I mean, you're extremely right, but does the IJN even have that many CVE's that can be spared for air escort duty?

If IJA didn't want to lose almost 2 divisions worth of troops they would use their own ships. Or maybe submarines.

I set sail for the Planet of Lab Requisitions!!

Most of those slow, short ranged, fragile xAKL 'transports' should be shuttling resources from China/Korea to the home islands. The thought of trying to use them for transporting actual troops fills me with existential horror.

British lend lease version. There are some UK carriers floating around there somewhere.

There was actually quite a number of RN ships in the Pacific even in the IRL timeline.

Just counting the carriers:

the Implacable launched airstrikes against Truk

the Indefatigable and the Illustrious attacked Japanese positions in the occupied Dutch East Indies and was involved in the invasion of Okinawa

the Formidable, the Victorious, the Unicorn were also involved in Okinawa

the Indomitable lead the effort to liberate Hong Kong

and then six more Colossus-class CVLs were completed and commissioned before the end of the war, though I don't know exactly how many of those show up in the game

A new power is rising! Its victory is at hand! This night, the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan!
What a day. I'll immediatly prepare two speeches about it:

1st version's beginning, if we win the war: "The outrageous story about the horrifying war crimes, caused by despicable monsters with no respect for human life, dignity, and the conventions at the time. We must never forget this infamy."

2nd version's beginning, if we lose the war: "The sad, sorrowful story of an incredible loss of life, reminding us of the terrible costs of war, in which many brave, innocent and candid men died for their country. We must move on, so their tragic sacrifice isn't meaningless."

Disappointing after yesterday!

A mythical British carrier is spotted!

Their CAP is to strong.

But we take one plane down.

This is a rag-tag force they have put together.

We're trying the “wave after wave of my own troops” strategy it seems!

Dammit, there goes another ship!

That carrier force is kicking my rear end – and while I don't think they could damage my carriers, I don't feel like throwing away all my aircraft against a wall of flak. So I'm sending them south, to see if there are any choice convoys heading to Australia!

No, because she was sunk IRL she's not withdrawn in-game, although she probably would have been withdrawn had she survived.

The Unicorn and the Indefatigable operating in a single TF together while operating Seafires and Corsairs makes this probably one of the deadlier TFs that the AI has managed to put together.

Two German destroyers, Z-35 and Z-36, sink with all hands after straying into a friendly minefield in rough weather outside Tallinn. Admiral Grey, we demand a decisive battle! Send in the battleships!! It's the only way these carriers can be defeated! Has our glorious Navy not proved time after time its superiority in these crucial battles?

To avoid a battle that will once again correct the destiny of the Empire is the height of dishonor!

If good CVs come after you piecemeal then it is your duty to send out forces to destroy them. For crying out loud you just lost 25000 men in a day, what's a few airframes and pilots?

Can we get a map of the real life battle lines overlaid with Grey's map as of December 7th 1944? I know the difference is drastic, especially in China, but the gods eye view would be really helpful.

This isn't perfect but it should give you an idea of Grey's successes compared to real life:

China and and the preparations for Ichi-go, mid 1944 (notice how far they were from Chunking)

Burma (serious operations occured during the summer in 44 but everything's chill on that front in this game)

An important map of the pacific, notice how the allies are starting to take over the Philippines and bypassing Truk

Another strike is cut to pieces. I'm left wishing I had Kamikaze attacks.

They can't be any less wasteful.

If I have any planes left that is.

Dammit, they found the second troop convoy!

This turned out to be a good idea already!

The defenders here give as good as they get!

This many torpedoes will cause some issues, I'm sure.

Please be tanks!

It looks like my pilots need the home field advantage to excel.

These are some sustainable air losses. But I have to try and get the hits in!
