I'm glad that the Royal Navy is living up to it's reputation under Grey! It took long enough.

Operation Silk Road is bombed today – which tells me they have seen tens of thousands of men marching up to cause chaos.

Down goes another battleship!

Striking south was a really good idea!

This is only a cargo ship, but still a good kill.

We have a bad day here.

But nothing like the bad day the Allies are having to the south!

It can't all go my way – we take more heavy losses – apparently cargo ships can't flee from carriers that well.

You know the story here.

These destroyers are laden with survivors. Poor buggers.

A cheap shot on the way out of the day.

No sign of the QE, and with one confirmed kill, its almost balanced up the loss of two heavily laden troop convoys.
Almost.

It's brutal out there.

Black Thursday was a disaster, plain and simple.
We lost too many good people, too many planes.
We can't let that kind of tragedy happen again.
So how many American soldiers and Marine, British soldiers, Commonwealth soldiers, and anything else solider-wise on the Allied side did Grey wiped out so far?

So, still no LRCAP from Guam to cover those transports, eh

Land-based LRCAP over transports is pretty hard to pull off. There isn’t any clear “cover this convoy” order you can give. Even assuming you set the orders properly, you’re talking about locating and covering the convoy at pretty long range. The squadron might not go to the right place, or it might suffer a lot of ops losses, etc.

I'm fairly certain that I've set LRCAP over specific TFs before, there is a select target button for that mission.

Will that target the TF though, or just the hex where you first click it? Of course it should be the former but I’m not certain that it isn’t the latter.

I was trying to protect things running in/out of Rangoon the other day and I'm fairly certain it popped up as saying "TF 453 targeted" or something like that, I think it even worked with multiple TFs in the hex but maybe that was just my imagination.

And in this case, Guam was two hexes away, although of course the transports were much farther away to start with

Buut, it's just yet more awful micromanagement. I just figured after yesterday's turkey shoot, if there were more troop transports in the same area, maybe it'd be worthwhile to try.

Soo, how many men and ships has Grey lost in this week?

25-30 cargo ships/transports? 2-3 light cruisers? 4-6 escorts/DD's and at least 35,000 or so men?

And couple hundred planes?

The day starts with a cheeky surface attack.

Nice showing guys!

We have to claw back those losses somehow.

The carriers keep carrying on.

That's it, I'm benching the planes here – and should have days ago.

Kudos to their warrior spirit though!

Another wounded destroyer is picked off.

We can put up a fight on the defensive at least!

All bombers at Guam have been stood down. Lets see what we can do now!

Look intelligence, I know your trying to make me feel better, but at least use a more recent ship. Eh?

I'd rather ask why they were still there three days after the allied carriers had rolled in. It looks like they actually kept closing in on Guam instead of ditching the damaged ships and getting the gently caress out northwards.

Worst. Bombardment. Ever. We really lay into both battleships and leave them burning.

Liberators. Easy prey.

The battle over Hong Kong continues.

Given his screen time, I'm going to assume the “S” stands for Sean.

Just go away!

Fuel cargo burning. Such lovely words.

This one seems to have been empty.

My pilots get cocky and attack a base. Losses are incurred on both sides.

I do love target rich environments.

A nice series of hits there – a couple of burning battleships is a nice addon – they won't sink, but they will need some repairs.

One of my wounded ships goes down.

A new power is rising! Its victory is at hand! This night, the land will be stained with the blood of Rohan!
Your gunners on Truk probably rose an eyebrow as they watched countless shells slam into the ocean next to them, before carefully aiming and blasting these fools. Seriously, were the BBs trying to starve your base by blowing up all the fish?

Kind of crazy that US battleships, supposed queens of bombardment, are getting smacked about by base defence guns, while IJN battleships are breaking all the rules. Again.

wedgekree

Is it possible to get airstrikes on the BB's or will they be out of range before you can throw some torpedo planes at them? Also congrats! Get some more fighters to Guam, Hong Kong, and Truk and reinforce the planes there. Also well done in etting the tankers - those will hopefully make a difference! That's what - 3-4 sunk or heavily damaged?

And get more coastal guns to Truk. Your gunners should learn from the best! Those BB's were WW1 rebuilds right?

I have come to discourse on the profound inequities of the American political system.

Two WWI era refits take on a rock literally bristling with guns, get clowned on.

Its important to remeber that the times in WW2 where BBs took on islands, they had the advantage of being backed by US airpower. Its much easier to slam several tons of munitions into the earth when anybody who could shoot back at you is being suppressed by Helldivers and F6Fs.

Caconym was kind enough to post this a while back in the thread, im guessing from looking it up in game:

TOE of Truk Naval fort shows a total of 62 coastal defense and dual purpose guns, from heavy cruiser to destroyer size.
4 heavy cruiser guns (8")
23 light cruiser guns ~6" (3x15.5cm, 19x15cm, 4x14cm)
31 destroyer guns (27x12.7cm, 4x12cm)
4 smaller 8cm

Not exactly the finger of God or anything, but probably enough to make a BB spend some extra time docked at the repair yard instead of doing something useful

Nagara was the lead of her class when she launched in 1921.

It was a dumpy old cruiser by 1944, but still could run with destroyers. She was most prominent as part of the battle of Guadalcanal

I made of model of her when I was in my 20s.

Its mortal remains are still in my house somewhere.
