I couldn't do insurance sales. Just sucked too hard. First of all, they lied to me and said I wouldn't be doing cold calls because other people would handle that. Nah it was 99% cold calls unless I wanted to generate leads on my own time after work (nah). Then they basically cranked rates like gently caress and I felt like poo poo trying to sell an insurance package that was 99.99% the same as all the other insurance packages but for 2-4x the price. I didn't care when it was selling life insurance to a rich person but that was rare and usually I dealt with regular people and holy poo poo the screws that get turned on them. Then they had me take some sales classes in which some blowhard bragged about his verbal abuse of a car wash employee. Then they stiffed me on commissions for what I did sell. They were also SUPER loving VAGUE about the % of commission I get for each product which was shady as hell to me from day 1. "We don't have a table you can just reference" yeah go gently caress yourselves. Then they had no customer support people really so I had to do lead generation, the actual sales part, customer support, and other random poo poo all on my own. lol. How am I supposed to make cold calls when half the day people call to ask about random poo poo on their insurance or complain about rates being cranked up on them? How do I go out and close sales and talk to people in person (the only real value point involved in our 2-4x the cost insurance) when I'm the only one at the office that can do basic stuff with the system like change mileage information or look people's history up? One person sticks out in my mind because she was on a fixed income and was scraping together payments for a life insurance policy ...... which didn't exist because her previous agent whose customers I took over after said previous agent left just fuckin' lied to her for years about what she had. Only uncovered after I went out to do an in-person review with her. She thought she had a $150k life insurance policy on her diabetic husband, turns out nah she has like some poo poo house $10k policy with a decreasing term (ie even that $15k will be gone soon) they've been paying out the rear end for (like hundreds of dollars a month) because without her husband she has no income. The company was extremely uncooperative and basically said "lol sucks for her" and in the end I helped the woman file a grievance with the insurance commissioner on the side. Probably nothing ever came of it. Good job for loving that poor woman out of hundreds of dollars a month for years, Farmers. Owned by Zurich Financial Group in case anyone had any doubts. Then I started uncovering other similar shady poo poo like that (a couple people were paying thousands a month for a policy that wasn't what at all what they thought it was and wouldn't even make sense for them to have and poo poo). The whole job started to feel like I got dropped a client-book full of lawsuits waiting to happen done by the previous agent (who now, despite leaving on ostensibly horrible terms with the company, has another Farmers office in Northern California). gently caress sales lol Moridin920 has issued a correction as of 19:06 on Dec 14, 2018 |

they had several of those big commercial refrigerators. i had to provide a bin with my name on it to put into one, and another for a pantry shelf everyone just got minifridges for their rooms instead they constantly had to put out notices about not "smoking or burning substances in the rooms" the building was converted from an old orphanage. you could still see children's graffiti in the basement laundry

Teriyaki Koinku posted:Cross-posting from the cyberpunk dystopia thread since I'm not sure which thread is more appropriate, but it's definitely a pro-click: The $15 means more for the people working in the warehouses where poo poo is actually stored because if it's like the one near my facility (I work sort/routing, we don't have any inventory of our own poo poo just flows through), they get full-time where the $15 would actually start mattering instead of the 'escorted from the building when you hit 29.5 hours' like happens here. I haven’t worked for amazon and I could fully believe it’s uniquely terrible in a way that negates this, but ive worked warehouse jobs on both 8x5 and 10x4 schedule and idk I never noticed the extra two hours while I was already tired compared to an entire free day

I mean, it certainly is a dumb and bad advertisement for a number of reasons, but I really am fascinated with goon face blindness. I suspect it has to do with watching a lot of anime and (most) real people don't have three foot tall blue pompadours and poo poo to tell them apart.

used to do sales for SiriusXM for $9/hr, like five years ago we got commission; if you had a 100% CCOF rate, at least a 80% sales rate, and never called in sick, you could make as much as the princely sum of $12/hr I didn't do that job for the money or the thrill of it but because call centers are always hiring and nobody else would

my sister knows a guy from high school who works sales and started out in a sales job that had a similar model of selling useless financial products to old people, and that he would routinely mislead them as to what they were buying. he got her a job too but she was let go for not making quota becayse she wouldnt sell old people poo poo they didnt need. after he graduated college he parlayed that experience into a hotshot sales job at bloomberg and now he has an even more hot poo poo sales job at linkedin. sales jobs select for sociopaths who have no qualms towards ripping people off. stealing from poor people, but giving the theft a veneer of respectability by making the thieves wear suits and go to fancy colleges, is a central component to our economy
