The Destroyermen series is on audible and it's a pretty good pulpy adventure novel about some ww2 destroyers being transported to a world were the dinosaurs never died. It's really good.

(also i couldn't help laughing a little whenever i heard anyone mention a fax or cassette tape)

ty 2 the people that recommended The Expanse series, I listened to Leviathan Wakes for my 12 hour drive and it was excellent, at least to the point I got to. Which is about halfway? Who killed the water hauler? How did the techno-aids get on the pirate ship? Who were the pirates? How did the scopuli get on the asteroid? Who attacked the big martian battleship? Will Miller ever gently caress again? Why is Holden so loving dumb at all times? Tune in to find out!!! Scionix has issued a correction as of 21:30 on Dec 22, 2018 |

The Man in the High Castle was, to be honest, a kind of boring and unremarkable book by PKD, can't say anything for the TV series If you're talking books tho I can strongly recommend Ubik instead or in addition to it

Halfway through The Half Has Never Been Told and drat it's good, very in depth while being accessible and of course infuriating. Basically 400+ pages dedicated entirely to tearing down Lost Cause bullshit and the notion that slavery was incidental or irrelevant to the US becoming the nation it is

If anyone has read Radical Technologies and enjoyed it New Dark Age: Technology and the End of the Future is right up your alley. Radical Technologies went more in depth about tech than New Dark Age, but I did like emphasis on the vast data accumulation with the latter. I'm open to any suggestions on similar topics like these two books have covered. I'll probably get one more book from Verso, Liberalism: A Counter-History. I think I have enough books for the rest of the year to get through.

Here's my actually about what I'm reading update: I finished Little Fires Everywhere and it was an unexpectedly really good book. Now I'm reading one of my new Verso books, Fictitious Capital, and it's also a very pleasant book. I'm really putting those two required econ courses to work!

Liking this fantasy series so far. It talks a lot about colonialism, religion, cultural erasure, and power dynamics in a sort of industrial revolution age with old dead gods. There is a bit of a cringe-worthy Queequeg character, but the action scenes are enjoyable.

New Jim Crow is extremely important and probably the best book about race and policy to come out in probably a decade. And it’s extremely well written, especially for something by an attorney.

I've been reading "The Storm Before The Storm" by Mike Duncan and while I'm enjoying the content the actual writing itself is bugging me because it's essentially a transcript of how Duncan talks during his podcasts and it doesn't look like he had an editor go through it because I keep catching missing words or stuff that a good editor would never have let pass muster like overuse of "literally"
