NI gets a fuckton of "peace and reconciliation" funding from the EU that would offset any tax burden that Ireland has to carry. Ireland used to have a similar brain drain until the government made a concerted effort to stop young people leaving the country. It went from a backwater EU country dominated by Catholic doctrine to one of the most progressive members of the EU in the span of a single generation.
