Yakuza games are basically modern day River City Ransom games, running around town, beating up random dudes for money, and they're super goofy in tone, at least in the sidequests. They also have excellent soundtracks which elevates the material significantly

They're also massive, particularly after Yakuza 1 and 2 (re-released as Kiwami). I'm about 85 hours into Yakuza 5 and I'd estimate I have at least twenty hours to go. You don't have to wander around and do everythign like I do, but if you don't do things like breed racing chickens or master darts or try to pick up all the litter in the city or get into street races with your taxi as you play the soundtrack from Outrun then why would you even be playing the games? Someday I will finish Yakuza 5. Then I can start Ishin, one of the historical side games not released in the US. And if I finish that, I can finally play Yakuza 0. But new players who haven't been playing every single game in the series in order for the past twelve years can just jump straight to 0 and enjoy it. Trying to find a funny panel involving yakuza and failing. Wolverine has beaten them up on occasion, but not really been funny about it.
