Although I guess thats more a strawhat moment, not a Conis one I also liked she she rushed back to the beach to tell everyone what was happening and shoved that bazooka in the troopers face.

Not just being a so very Straw Hat moment but it fleshes out the world and shows that their journey is far from the only way of doing things.

I know there are low points, but the cool moments, masses of new characters and general feeling that stories and character arcs big, small, established and untold are all taking place at once puts Dressrosa as one of my favourite arcs, certainly above FI and Punk Hazard.

ik its dredging up last page but rebecca's design (notnecessarily her as a character) is a big reason why dressrosa felt bad to me. scenes like where doflamingo is manipulating her to kill violet have the potential to be really cool when luffy comes and saves the day, but it's incredibly loving hard to get over her outfit because its just so beyond ridiculous. the anime makes this moment even more outrageous because there's a ton of superfluous jiggling going on and takes away any ounce of gravitas that said i really shouldn't bitch too much. oda's worldbuilding, character design, etc. has been unimpeachable for a few years now. WCI i think will eventually be remembered as one of the top OP arcs because of all the variety in design, different themes (classic shonen, mystery, horror) and importance to the story. also side note but kinda cool to think, luffy is technically the closest person to one piece as far as we know at the moment, being the only person w/ access to more than 1 road poneglyph

I'm not sure if it was expanded on in the anime, but the Galley-La folks hammer home to the Straw Hats that the Merry is a complete write-off and 'fixing' it would amount to basically building an entirely new ship, which would be fundamentally different in ways the Straw Hats would notice. They're the ones who have fundamental respect for a good ship, especially one that's clearly been through insane adventures and made it to the Grand Line despite being a very ordinary little ship, and that includes knowing when it's on its last legs. It's interesting and almost unique that all the damage the Merry takes on the Grand Line with only makeshift repairs actually adds up in the end. Even in most serious-minded series, a vehicle that isn't expendable and easily (and frequently) replaced tends to have all damage magically fixed by the start of the next episode, and/or is always in a steady state of disrepair. (apparently Outlaw Star actually has a bit of that with the spaceship starting out pristine and shiny but ending up dirty, rusty and dented)

Just reading posts about Merry is enough to make my eyes misty. I started reading One Piece in 2010 and it still floors me that one of the most poignant and emotional scenes in its entire run is about a boat. The other two that stand out to me are Robin's "I wanna live" and the panel when Sanji utterly breaks down in the rain outside of Pudding's room. That was devastating
