We also found a WWII RPG that we missed in the first couple of weapons sweeps. I also got the small Tektron crow's foot set, which looks fine and comes with a decent metal rack. Two of the three boxes for the Quickjack showed up, the other one got put on the wrong truck and has been going back and forth between Oakland, San Rafael, and SF for the last few days. Kinda random question/recommendations: I like using bags for storage and organization. Not just tools, but I find them useful when taking a random assortment of things to work (I put some common sockets in one, a set of wrenches in another, and am using an Altoids tin to hold some socket adapters). These are my favorites except for being mono-black and easy to loose in the black pit of my main tool bag. CLC 1100 3 Pack Multi-Purpose Clip-on Zippered Poly Bags https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002YVBC0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Zn7jCbS43TCRM I also like these, though they are too flimsy for tool use. They're great for electronics (got my phone chargers and cables stored in one). Vaultz Mesh Storage Bags, Assorted Colors and Sizes, 4 Bags (VZ01211) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001CDD0X8/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_5O7jCb1DZPTY0 I was wondering if anyone had others they'd recommend...

I ordered a bundle of CLC canvas tool pouches and bags for gun parts and tools, they’re pretty durable. Most of my tools stay in the garage but if not I use the bag that came with my Milwaukee drill set, its like a doctors bag. Edit: I failed to open the first link, that’s exactly what I have.

Man, I like those bags. Seems like it'd be great to keep sockets in to help separate them in my truck. I just dump everything into either a Craftsman canvas bag or a bigger Harbor Freight bag (Hercules brand thing). It's not very organized.

I got these for my wrenches. Ernst Manufacturing Wrench Rail Set, 40 Tool, Red https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0002SR03K/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_lknkCbQBEVMF4 They were really tippy and would fall over with the slightest movement, so I glued them to a board. Otherwise, okay? I see there's a version with a magnet, now. I believe my socket holders are from HF. Functional. Cheap. Nothing special. My boss got some Craftsman ones that list the size of the socket on the stick that goes up through the middle which are slightly nicer. Everything else just lays there or is in the case it came in. Stuck a magnet under the lid for my pliers.

They seem so simple I don't know how HF would gently caress 'em up. It's just stamped sheet metal. I don't like the peg style ones because they don't retain sockets other than by gravity, and they look like they take up a lot of space. Maybe that's an unpopular opinion. The metal clip style ones hold pretty good, and I can just grab the rail of sockets that are appropriate for what I'm working on.

Ah, I've gotten into the habit of only pulling the tools from my boxes that I absolutely need for exactly what I am working on and put them back as soon as I am done. I try and keep everything really organized, otherwise things tend to get lost / tripped on / forgotten / etc.

There used to be a nice version with a flexible rail that would get recommended here. I don't like them cause they are a PITA to use and tend to be hard on my hands. I used a Gearwrench hex bit set that came with a nice rail that I wouldn't mind over the HF ones.

I know, it seems like they'd be real hard to screw up. I think it was mainly an issue with the QC on the stamped socket retainer stubs. A full third of my 1/2" sockets would always fall off, and it seemed to be the same ones. I'd throw the rail in a toolbag in the back of my Jeep for a weekend trip, and by the time I got home a bunch of them would have fallen off despite the toolbag never getting opened. I'm not a hardcore rock bouncer guy either. I suppose I could begrudgingly say the 3/8 rails worked alright but they did have a lot of sharp edges. If you used them for deep sockets, the stubs/sockets on either end usually found a way to slip off the rail. This happened even when I was just working on stuff in the driveway. Maybe I got a few bad ones, who knows. that's my scathing 1/5 star yelp review of a $0.99 bit of metal thanks for reading

For socket racks, I have a bunch like this: And a bunch like this: Both are fine. The plastic ones are easier to trim to length, and you can find both styles in different colors. My tools travel a lot, so I put a premium on the rack not shedding its contents when it's in a bag or I drop it versus standing up in my toolbox. The stamped metal HF ones are trash.

Yeah, I have a full set of those also and they’re ... alright. They won’t hold big sockets (due to size and weight), and the pin that the socket snaps on to seems to break with age. (Mine are probably about three years old and I’ve found several sockets with pin still in them at the bottom of tool bags.) I like them in theory, but they don’t quite live up to it.
