It was a terrible game, but the Hawks always seem to match their opponents (look at the last three weeks) and it was a divisional game.
I knew they would win, though- Seabass made the first PAT.

The one thing the Niners have done consistently for the last decade and a half is to be stacked at RB. We're keeping them all and we're using them all.

Matt Breida left every single game with an injury, which is also a fun McKinnon trait. 3 headed committee of necessity baby

I think the plan was always to use both, as they have complementary skillsets. McKinnon is the more talented receiver and Breida the more talented outside zone runner.

Whether either will ever be simultaneously healthy enough for shanahan to use them as intended remains to be seen.

Chris Carson is going to drag the Dallas D all over Texas. With the run established, long bombs to Moore and Lockett and improbable scramble catches by Baldwin will destroy what's left of the secondary.

The defense is overwhelmingly players that are age wise between super young or about to enter their peak years. Almost everyone is on a rookie contract except for our new FS who has been one of the best FA pickups league wide from the offseason. The defense still needs another top shelf DE and a starting OLB. Other than that every other position is young, talented, and cost controlled. They aren’t an elite defense yet, but they are good.

Offense... OL is much better from last year thanks to our new OL coach. However it’s still not really good. Our guards were both good at run blocking but bad at pass blocking. RT is awful and LT is good but maybe playing injured or something because he’s been a bit worse down the stretch.

Stacked at RB. Two “A-“ but super clutch wide receivers plus a promising and physically talented kiddo named Moore. Depth falls off quickly after that. A surprisingly solid TE. Best QB in the league.

I can see Seattle beating Dallas, but I have a hard time seeing them get past the monstrous pass rush of Chicago.

Seattle’s defense was average this year by basically every measure.

16th in total defense
11th in scoring defense
17th in passing
13th in rushing
14th in DVOA

The offense was actually 6th in ToP as well, so the defense was on the field a lot less than many others. The running game is basically dragging the rest of the team to quasi relevance.

They are above average in DVOA and in the top third for scoring defense. Further, almost every player is young (rookie through year 4). It’s fair to say the defense is good.

In addition to the defensive metrics, they also have great roster depth everywhere except OLB.

E: I’m not saying they are great, but they are a good defense. The depth is especially impressive. The problem is they lack that top shelf starter for the OLB and 1 DE.

DVOA has them at .2% better than average, so I guess above average is technically correct, but you’re making “above” do a lot of work in that sentence.

Our defense is better than expected, given how the Legion of Boom is no more. We lead the league in rushing and Russ is getting sacked less and the biggest reason why is because we sacked Tom Cable and hired on Mike Solari as o-line coach. Our backfield is the three-headed monster of Carson, Davis, and Penny and a big reason why Russ is one of the most clutch QBs out there is because he has receivers like Baldwin and Lockett to throw to. I'm drat sure that Pete Carroll can out-coach circles around Jason Garrett on top of that. Dallas' weak point offensively is Dak, so I'd expect a whole lot of pressure on him.

Wilson was sacked 51 times, which is the highest number in his career. Like 12 of those were in the first two games though

The 49ers *still* have over 60 million in cap space, and could probably free up more with some needed cuts. Making a run at a top veteran WR is an absolute need in FA this year, assuming they're targeting a top pass-rusher at #2.

I'm not sure I remember seeing him catch a single ball outside the redzone. Especially once Baldwin was healthier and more involved in the offense.

Not much opinion either way on him. He hasn't been a standout but he's been fine. Popular red zone target, invisible otherwise--I guess the Jimmy Graham role for the year? Useful in that sense but it's clear that without Baldwin no other WRs can reliably get separation. I expect the team to go a different direction going forward.
