Don't let birds do this, it puts them into nesting behaviors and they turn into huge assholes because they're all horned up

First: I find it difficult to believe that the birds will not eventually find a way around this. Second: holy poo poo those are ugly. How much do you wanna bet that the expensive cars they’re protecting are too?

ChickenOfTomorrow posted:"whatchoo gonna doo about it?" Cool. Someone made a low tech security system for that bird's nest. It probably makes it difficult for predators to swoop in and grab the baby, once it hatches. Cats can't go as fast while walking through the spikes either. I just like to imagine the birds are like,"cool. Thank you for the predator deterrent."

And if they're in an area with shrikes, expect a lot of dead critters to be impaled on those spikes. Birds have been living with thorned plants for a long time.

Ha, that's in Clifton, Bristol. I used to live around the corner from there. The expensive cars will be stuff like Audis, Beamers and Alfas. Clifton is poo poo to park in, there's only on road parking because the buildings and road layout is Georgian so there's no garages or underground parking. It was always a scrum to find anywhere to park and 50% of the time you'd end up parked under a tree. No idea why the residents don't just buy car protectors to put over their cars while they're parked under a tree instead putting up those ridiculous spikes. The spikes won't save their paintwork from sap and pollen and blossoms dropping on their car.

Because that would mean their precious status symbol would be hidden from other people in the neighborhood. What's a McMansion without the attached McLuxury Car, after all?

These aren't McMansions, they are old Georgian and Victorian terraced townhouses or houses split up into 4 or so flats. This is fairly typical of a Clifton street. Here is a Pigeon on the Clifton Suspension Bridge over the river Avon.
