Replying to self, but one thing I like about this idea is it's absolutely viable to have an irregular number of stages and/or have the entire condition set swap between stages.
If I had to design an Escalation it would definitely involve the condition set changing completely every single stage. The final stage would involve the easiest target imaginable (or no target, maybe just picking up an item) but would have both mines and laser tripwires as well as every single NPC on the map being a super-enforcer while requiring you to carry an illegal weapon on your back. For a Stanley Parable-themed escalation having tripwires/mines blocking off every path except the most incredibly obvious one would be funny, but only if you actually can get around it.

No actually I'm kidding, I'd design a Mumbai Escalation based around smuggling the Kashmirian's sniper rifle openly across the map. Restricted Loadout (No Sniper Rifles + No Briefcases).

hmmmm wouldnt it be faster (maybe) to start marina and knock out the mascot in the tunnel?

I'll test that when I get home but it's literally sixty seconds from mascot start to the rooftop, so I don't see it beating that if you have to steal a costume on the way.

This does not make sense when, again, aggregate indicia also indicate improvements. The belief that things are worse is false. It remains false.
I'm kind of upset at the idea of a new generation of people being exposed to Hitman Absolution. Are they going to fix the absolutely atrocious writing of it and Blood Money? Will I finally get to reveal my conspiracy theory that the plot of hitman 2016 was developed out of material originally planned for Absolution? (I do actually have good, concrete evidence for this, but I found it by being so obsessive about documenting Absolution that I feel bad about revealing it)

I was thinking you'd have to smuggle a briefcase around the entire map (with the much-beloved "keep it equipped all the time" restriction), but it's now an illegal item everywhere for everyone.

The fastest way from the tunnel into the building is through a camera that two guards are facing. As far as I’m aware that’s the major time obstacle to going for the blue flamingo.

I’d argue that almost all the older Hitman titles are jank as gently caress and it wasn’t your fault that you couldn’t make it work for you. Modern Hitman really smoothed things out.

For a long time, I've thought that Hitman: Absolution and Splinter Cell: Conviction would have been better-received if they had been Bourne Identity games rather than part of their respective franchises. A lot of the mechanics in both games would fit pretty well if you were playing as Jason Bourne (or another hyper-competent Treadstone subject).

I didn't enjoy Absolution, mostly because it didn't feel like a proper Hitman game. IOI even published a letter to reassure fans that the next Hitman game would be less like Absolution (they've removed it from their website, but you can find it easily enough). Blood Money in the new engine would have been neat, but the levels would probably feel small after 2016 and 2 (the sixth Hitman game, Hitman 2, not the second Hitman game, Hitman 2).

I wouldn't want them to waste time converting Blood Money levels (which were way more limited than the levels we get in 2016/18) and would much rather they just revisit some of the concepts, like they did with Another Life. The Vegas casino level from Blood Money could be done so much better in the new engine, it would be great.

Yeah agreed, something like the opera level or the New Orleans "stop the assassins from getting the politician during Mardi Gras" levels would be great in the new game.

Are people expecting the 3 super crazy powerful families revealed after last mission to get taken out in the DLC for this game or they're maybe saving it for a potential future game? Very curious to see what they do for the DLC to be honest, hoping there's something a little more exotic than anything from the base game. Even Sgail was a fancy party at the end of the day. Obviously they were all fun to play, just aesthetically something really different would be cool. Also hope one of the level variants that're supposed to come with each DLC is a mixup of Another Life, like a street party on halloween night or christmas or something.

I imagine they planned starting from Hitman 2016 for there to be a solid trilogy to round out this story but given their sales woes I don't know if that's possible. I would prefer if they wrapped things up in DLC rather than leave threads hanging but I presume they might have other plans.

Trainspotting (Mumbai) - 1-13-5788952-85

Three targets, focusing on using a sniper rifle in the train yard (hence the title). I don't think sniper rifles get enough play, tbh, though that makes sense with how loving buggy they are. I also wanted to do a contract without knocking anyone out, since I feel like that + the sniper rifle is a weird enough combination to be interesting.

Tanvi is a pain in the rear end, she alerts off of almost everything immediately or straight-up ignores it; I ended up having to use coins to lure her under a birdcage to kill her, I couldn't get her into the bushes like with everyone else. I'd enjoy feedback for this, I guess.

I'm probably going to do a sniper one for Miami next, I think.

e: considering the "no bodies found" thing, in addition to something I wanted you to angle for, is also me telling you that with the AI being buggy if someone sees you shoot a body they will find you almost immediately and open fire. I hope they fix snipers soon. :(

I loved the old series, still haven't played the new ones. But I did just install Hitman 2016's missions in the Hitman 2 launcher, so I'll be checking it out soon. For me the old ones were very cool, starting with II Silent Assassin. MGS is my fav stealth series, Hitman right up there too. And I know it's game non grata here, for me Absolution was a very ideal mix of those two, or something like that. A game aired squarely at me I guess. Not to say all MGS fans would like it or anything.

Another thing also is that most people do sniper stuff by just doing the map normally, knocking the person out in a bathroom or something, popping em point blank and then instantly hiding em and briefcasing the sniper again.

Not sure what you mean, sniper rifles are working just fine as lockpicks. Wish I could sub-1:00 this but I don't feel like grinding it; almost certain it can be done provided the train arrives about at that time and the exit prompt appears. Not crazy about the specific restrictions but if you want to force the sniper rifle you kind of have to, and I ended up using the accident to my advantage for the final distraction, which I think ended up working out pretty well. It's not perfect as contracts go, but it's a neat little puzzle.

Actually, the weirdest part of this run is that I somehow failed a complication at the end and still got full points; I think I heard the spotted sound during the exit cutscene, so perhaps I was "spotted" during the exit which doesn't count but can fail complications (had it been Required Do Not Get Spotted, it could actually have failed me during the cutscene).

Perhaps my favorite kill in that game was sneaking right up to the threshold of the Oval Office and setting a bomb, then going back outside and letting the other assassin see me so he’d try to rush outside to confront me, blowing himself up in the process.

Most of those people aren't real; there aren't a lot of "true" NPCs in the stands. The most prominent one is the guard who walks along the bottom, and he can be killed using the Proximity Taser due to being a guard.

Assuming someone were in the stands, it'd be easier to lure them up into the hallways on top. Almost no one goes up there, so you can pretty much just shoot them, but if you were concerned you could use a poison syringe. You could also potentially poison them inside the crowd even, as long as no other NPCs are close by; the crowd will freak out, but they need a real NPC to transmit their panic to in order to spot you committing a crime.

Honestly, I figured the gelateria shop lady to be the most difficult kill, since she doesn't move and a lot of people are looking at her and I knew her as a bad target in the previous season. I suppose she's easy with slow lures, but I was still worried she'd drag the whole contract down... but she doesn't! As it turns out, you don't even need to move her.

Shopping Spree by Your Brain on Hugs/constantinos.smith (SO 2:44)

Kudos for making a Season One contract. It's fun to go back to the original maps and explore new options in the form of equipment that didn't exist (the EMP, tasers, etc.) and new mechanics and opportunities (briefcase lures, shooting open doors). In this particular run, a number of mechanics changes for 2018 altered how the run works:
  • I don't think it was possible to emetic the hairdresser without distracting somebody in 2016. You'd get "headturned" by the lady in the chair.
  • Shooting open the Sanguine shop door isn't that much faster than using a Breaching Charge, but it does save on loadout since I wasn't going to be using my pistol slot for anything else.
  • Targets can't spot you, so I could've just ran up to Milani and stabbed him, but that's unprofessional.
  • It's still somewhat RNG, but it's possible to slip past Labate without getting caught in 2018.
  • Don't think people could miss Mantovani's body lying there but I'm not sure. They also might have heard the melee. They also wouldn't have all stayed turned as long as they did. Also, they would've eventually noticed the body (unless the chef falls in a weird way, no one will notice anything even after a guard takes the Mixtape away).
