It's part of the Monster World series but not the Wonder Boy series. It's... a confusing pair of series. The first Monster World game was the second Wonder Boy game, some games are part of both series, some are part of only one. There are two different games both called Monster World III, of which one is also a Wonder Boy game.

He botched the main "strat" several times which involves getting knocked around by unexploded bombs to reach higher places but it didn't seem like anything out of the ordinary for a game that looks as janky as that tbh.
