There's fairly decent film of that last one.

We have more fun in Burma.

We Punish their bombers today.

There are many raids, and we chip off the odd bomber here and there.

Look at those planes losses! But with one or two being killed over 20 or so raids, it would not have been interesting reporting.
I am ready to take another base off the Allies though!

Geeze, your pilots at Rabaul are getting -really- good at knocking down strategic bombers. Is it worth it to rotate some of them to other air units to give thier experience/training around? Are the fighters there fully upgraded to current models? And you see any need to send in replacements or not?

I'm still reducing Chungking to rubble.

Guys, we all know you can do better.

These Privateers put up a good wall of fire.

The Mitchells do not.

It's a heavy day of fighting over Rabaul.

You know, I'm just going to read this as them having to cross a couple of miles of minefields to get to the starved Allied troops.

The oh so stable combat engine comes up again, but this time I have the troops to win in a few days time.

You win some, you lose some.

It's just a moat.

The moat is filled with saltwater crocodiles.

The tactic is to feed them J Rations until they burst.

JNAF suicide aircraft knock out the destroyer-minesweeper Long and fast transport Brooks (the latter merely permanently damaged rather than sunk) in the Lingayen Gulf invasion. Over in northern Europe, escort destroyer HMS Walpole is totaled by a mine strike off Flushing.

I wonder how Allies can force bomber aircrews to attack Rabaul? They get staggering losses, that would cause mutiny IRL.

habeasdorkus

Royalty is a continuous shitposting motion.
Recently they've been getting absolutely hammered, but until about a month ago they were sending 10 bombers and losing 1-2. Is that much worse than daylight bombing over Germany before 1945? If it is, then command probably drops the number of missions per crew down from 25 to something like 20.

You strongly underestimate the courage and fortitude of human beings in combat. 8th Air Force alone lost around 4,100 heavy bombers over occupied Europe. These losses are nowhere near that.

Sure, it's not "Operation Tidal Wave", but imagine your crew is one of 6 aircraft, and every time you fly 2 don't come back.

According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/RAF_Bomber_Command the highest single-sortie loss rate for Bomber command was 11.8%
That was extreme and utterly unsustainable.

The overall loss rate for Bomber Command operations was 2.2 percent, but loss rates over Germany were significantly higher; from November 1943 – March 1944, losses averaged 5.1 percent

Does anyone have an explanation as to why the AI really loves penny-packets? It's not even historically accurate- bombing raids rarely numbered less than 50 aircraft at a time, and carrier groups rarely had just one CV.

Two in one day? That must be a record!

These guys are in a lot of trouble now! And for once, I don't mean my attacking force.

A dull day in the air, but my new offensive on the ground continues! Cleaning up bases isolated since 1942!

7 January 1945 (New Year's resolution: stop giving 1944 as the year)

Two more destroyer-minesweepers succumb to air attack (note: not suicide) in Lingayen Gulf: USS Hovey and USS Palmer. In Manila Bay, the last USN-IJN surface action of the war results in the escort destroyer Hinoki sinking under a hail of gunfire delivered by a quartet of American destroyers.

So, what does Noemfor have that makes it worth a ground attack? Or is it just maintaining the offensive momentum?

Also I guess given the lack of taking big air bases close to Japan that the nearest place strategic bombers could operate out of is probably Australia that has the infrastructure built up to support them.

Well, you could always try and do something lik get enough of a foothold in the area to consider whether it's realistic to attack and occupy Port Moresby to interdict the flow of supplies to Australia?

Also yay for the slow and steady progress of drawing the USN into decisive battle!

... How many carriers do you have now and how are you operating them in separate task forces? And are all the planes on them/Rabaul up to date or they training for the moment?

Now this is an interesting place to have a carrier...

If only all fights were this one sided.

The commander here, on his own initiative I might add, pushes his men one last day and captures the enemy, taking the base for Japan!
Now I will reload most of them an take that base to the north.

The Empire is still expanding! I've reversed three months of allied gains in two weeks.

We are reminded the Americans do actually have subs.

One of our ships takes a hit.

It seems their snipers are out in force today.

Here we get some small measure of revenge.

All in all, it's not my day though.

Stupid Allies and their working stuff. The carriers haven't drawn planes in several days, so they are fill and going out south today!

At least these are my first ship losses of the year.
