Some of you may be aware that I have been working on a charity drive to assist people affected by the Butte County Camp Fire in California. The drive is over. So I am not here asking anyone to donate anything. I just thought people might like a little "behind the scenes" information.

The Butte County Camp Fire in Northern California was declared 100 percent contained on Saturday Nov 24th after burning 153,336 acres. Destroyed in the fire were 13,972 residences, 528 commercial and 4,293 other buildings. The town of Paradise California was literally wiped off the map.

At least 88 lives were lost as a result of the blaze and three firefighters were injured. This is the worst fire California has ever seen. I cannot even imagine what these people who have lost everything are going through.

Among those residences lost, were the homes and miniatures collections of several 40k/AoS gamers. We have been in contact with them and are going to be spearheading an effort to help at least a few of these players replace some, if not all, of their lost models.

I ran this drive to replace a ton of Warhammer 40k and AoS models through my Podcast, The Independent Characters. In addition, I worked with Games Workshop, who donated a 2000 point army to each of the 15 or so affected people.

Last Friday night I joined the Warhammer TV Team at Warhammer World, in their studio, while they had members of the ‘Eavy Metal Team and others from the studio paint up the HQ models for these armies they were donating. The show lasted about 5 hours. In that time, the painting team knocked out these models very quickly. It was really incredible to see the different approaches to the different models and then the results as they developed.

Between the donations from my listeners, the 40k and AoS communities, vendors such as Tablewar that advertise on my show, and Games Workshop themselves, we replaced an estimated 28-30k dollars worth of models for these folks.

If you follow Warhammer TV on Twitch and are a subscriber (which you can do “free” through Amazon Prime if you have it) you can watch last Friday’s entire live stream.

This was the eighth time I have been to Warhammer World. Each time it has been for a different reason. This trip was so unique and rewarding though. I'm on my way home now and exhausted. But it was totally worth it. I am stunned at how generous the Warhammer community, Tablewar, Crystal Fortress, and Games Workshop have been. Here are some of the pictures I thought you might enjoy:

I got to sit with Robin Cruddace for about an hour and discuss various things around the playtest group The Infinity Circuit. Then he and I walked through the Exhibition Hall. Was a great time.

Wade talking on mic and Adam Troke continuing to work on his model.

The main painting table - we would rotate painters out of this area and then to the two tables that were being used for the main on camera discussion. These people are incredibly friendly and funny.

The main control area for all of the cameras and mics.

Me during a short break off camera. This is the painting area again - then off to my left is the recording tables...

here you see the recording tables. The studio is actually pretty cool. I stole some ideas for my own recordings.

All in all, I spent about three and a half hours on camera talking with various painters and members of the Warhammer TV Team. I had a great time.

I had to leave about an hour or so before the end of the show as I had dinner plans - but I couldn't leave without this picture.

Notably GW realised they missed the 'D6' from Burning Roar on Gorehounds, turning it into a 9 point flamer (so still 50% more than the standard 6). Gorehounds still forget how to roar when someone stands next to them though.

I painted up the Warlord for a campaign I'll be coming in last in this year, pictured with some rando Tacticools from a few years back:

He's the Calth commander guy with a Reiver head, the Crozius arm minorly repositioned, some bling, and a new gun. Happy with the way he came out, though I was definitely in that "getting used to having a whole new set of paints" phase for this one, so I'm not completely sold on the paint job. Just glad to have him done.

I also painted him up some friends, 5 Hellbois and a Smug boi:

Points-wise this puts me back at about 4400 overall, which is about where I was before the army got cheaper in Chater Approved. Also I think this might be more models than I painted in all of twenty-fourty-kay-teen, which is, uh, pretty cool.

Those pictures should all be clickable to see the big ones (which I do not recommend, as they mostly only look good in thumbnails or from a few feet away).

When I’m not fielding the Commander, it’s the Immortal with the orange chest.

What is the most common point total for Kill Team Games? I think the Necron box is something like 75 points depending on your mix of Immortals/Deathmarks. Are all of the Kill Team starter boxes roughly the same point totals?

I’m thinking that if I need to run a bigger kill team, I’ll have my current team “conscript” auxiliaries from my main Necron army.

KT is played at either 100 or 200 points*, depending on if commanders are in or not. You want to get as close to that limit as you can (which is why I originally went with Death Guard, you can field a 99 point team with just the Plague Marines box, unlike Thousand Sons who need Tzaangors or you end up with something like 15 points of unused roster space.) At the GW store I play at, we almost never use commanders, although that might change now that most of us actually have some ready to go.

*Assuming you're not playing a campaign where the limits go up to allow for leveling up specialists and all that, but if that is the case you'll be given specific guidelines by whoever's running it.

EDIT: Also for whatever it's worth nobody I play with has any fluff for their team, although it seems like it would be fun to come up with some.

Welp in that case I wish the starter box had actually come with 100 points of dudes, but I guess I understand why it doesn’t - throwing in an Immortal/Deathmark box is a really low-effort way to get a team started, and it forces new players to buy more boxes of dudes in which case they end up with more than they need, which results in said new player building up to a full 40k army because why not.

Yeah I dunno why the KT boxes aren't all as close to 100 points as they can get, but they don't even have any starter boxes for the Chaos factions so I never really looked into it.

EDIT: Looking at the sprues I guess there's no way to get just one more model into the box for Necrons, and I assume it would be the same issue for everybody else.

You actually have enough for a Kill Team + Commander with just the Start Collecting Necrons box and if you want to have every possible option you can buy a Cryptek for a cheaper HQ than the Warlord (convert some warriors into Flayed Ones if you want those, lol.) Cryptek with cloak is fun to play because of the ability to shoot and fall back, although I'd rather have Reanimation Protocols than Living Metal but oh well. I ran a Cryptek, 5 Immortals, and a Deathmark as my team last time and it did p well.

Yeah, I knew they were just existing squad boxes, I just thought maybe they could make them more KT-centric, but the sprue design really precludes that.

The new GSC/AdMech ones look interesting because they're a commander and a squad together, although I'm probably also biased by the fact that the commanders are brand new models.

Yeah, they just slammed a coloured troop sprue from another box, with the cardboard faction specific details and some terrain. I still haven't bothered to build the terrain, I would have preferred like 2 squads worth of troopers instead, so you had a bit of variety. The Orks one was the burna/loota box, which you could make 5 models total from the pool of 4 burnas, 4 lootas and a spanner (which is missing left arms for Rocket launcha or Big Shoota.) which isn't a very good Ork Killteam, if you can get the rocket launcha to work, it maxes out at 61 points.

If you were thinking Space marine, or death guard, it almost makes more sense to buy First Strike.

Our local store never bothered to increase the points, so I went from ~12 models to ~7 when my dudes became more powerful.

On the topic of Space Marine kill teams, I have a friend who has two (2) Primaris Marines, what would be the cheapest, lowest-impact way for him to get a not-lovely kill team rolling?

All Primaris isn't great, because a lot of kill team success is spamming heavy weapons, or at least having them

Marine lists want at least a tac sniper with plasma, and a scout with missile or HB, ideally all of these.

Any suggestions on cheap carrying solutions?

I bought a KR Multicase for my Death Guard. Everyone seems to love this company but I don't really get it. Their website is beyond confusing and maybe I just bought "the wrong stuff" but the cardboard box I have is incredibly inconvenient to "lock" shut and all around I just do not like the product at all.

Regardless of whether I bought a suboptimal box or not, I don't want to spend $50+ for my growing Age of Sigmar army. This seems like the most bustling of all the minis threads so I figure I'd ask here. I was thinking of using a gun case with the eggshell foam, but I'm not sure how to transport my larger mounted units?
