Dumb as poo poo, but not outside the norm. That they're really culty just pushes it to lmao levels. I'm extremely jaded about extreme religiosity due to living in the US South and being around Evangelicals. Also my mother follows Feng Shui (and so do a lot of other Chinese apparently) Edit: I know little about Falun Gong and originally had them somewhere in my head a little lower than Hare Krishnas. Odd, but ultimately harmless.

Mainstream Christianity for example has relatively little impact on the medical health of the average practitioner, cults like Falongun directly cause death of their members and are extra bad.

I'm pretty much dismissive and jaded about most religions or weird belief systems so Listening to that video, and yeah, it's probably a cult, but then it's no more a cult than a bunch of Evangelical churches in the South. The only difference is that Falun Gong is centered around a personality that's mushing a bunch of new age stuff and Chinese/Buddhist mythos together into a mess and Evangelical churches are centered around a particular interpretation of the Bible. Alternatively, it's Chinese Mormonism but with ostensibly less polygamy and more new age healing bullshit.

the fact that in China such harmful cults and superstitious like Falun Gong are swiftly suppressed for the greater well-being of the people, while in USA similar cults such as Scientology and Tele-evangelism are permitted and continue to swindle working people out of their meager savings, demonstrates once more the failures of so-called "democracy" and the superiority of the dictatorship of the proletariat.

The show is marketed as a celebration of Chinese culture, some parts seemed alright. The costumes are bright and colorful. The dancing was fun. But a large part of the show is propaganda for a cult called Falun Dafa (from what I've read, the group is anti-gay, they believe their religion can heal illnesses, and one leader is on record saying they don't believe mixed-race children will get to heaven... sound familiar?). Here's just a little taste of the unexpected weirdness. After finishing a dance featuring some long, twirly, Han-dynasty sleeves (pretty cool), the person introducing the next piece talks a bit about persecution in China and you move to a dance with this scene: a man is imprisoned and blinded by the evil prison doctor when he won't renounce his faith in Falun Dafa. The blind man's wife and other clean-cut Falun Dafa friends are still preaching in the park when he returns, tapping away with his cane. When they realize that he has stayed faithful this whole time, he is suddenly visited by a bunch of angels and receives his sight again! Yay! Falun Dafa is good! So bizarre.

No, don't waste your money. It's not worth it. I was unfortunate enough to fall for the commercials and endless posters and advertisements, and it was.... a bizarre and strange night. About 1/3 of the performances consisted of women in colorful dresses with big sleeves swishing around in almost identical dances--visually pretty but nothing spectacular or interesting about them. If you've seen the commercials, then you've seen all there is to know about the dances. It's worth noting that the big colorful screen in the videos is quite pixelated and somewhat dingy in the actual show. Another 1/3 consisted of propaganda dance-performances talking about the suppression of the Falun Gong religion, including "comedic" skits where the Falun Gong practitioners triumph over the caricature Red Guards with the power of their religion, as well as "emotional" performances with beatings and arrests. The rest were a combination of some actually interesting performances using props (fans, drums, ribbons) and then 2 very... very... horrible "opera" performances, which were sung in Chinese with subtitles projected overhead. The lyrics included such gems as "Interracial marriage is against nature," "Atheism is the devil's tool," "Homosexuality will destroy the world." The show ended with a triumph of the formerly oppressed Falun Gong characters over the Red Guards, who saw the error of their ways and joined them, with the Falun Gong practitioners holding up a sign that said FALUN GONG IS THE ONLY TRUE RELIGION at the end. Not worth $80 or even $20.

The lie Falun Gong tells about the Chinese government targeting Falun Dafa practitioners because their bodies are extra healthy so they can sell their organs on the black market, is something I see repeated in the wild by libertarians. I don't think they even know where it comes from.
