Basically they took all their data on how people behave on the site, threw it into a pile, then told a computer to figure out how to use that data to give recommended articles/videos that maximize the time a user will stay on the site and see more ads. The reason why it tends towards extremist content is that the machine learning determined that people who watch that poo poo watch a lot of that poo poo.

My first exposure to hotep literature was a comic that asserted black men had the unique power to absorb and emit UV rays from their eyes like an Egyptian Superman.
