Should the Japanese run around with surface raiding groups in 1945? Please keep it going Grey, I want to see the end of this. Where they will drop the nukes.

Too bad you couldn't board and capture those tankers. They would make valuable prizes.

Five Allied Tankers in one day is a.. Nice haul. Will that actually interfere with thier operations or do the Allies get them like they do everything else? Also a British Cruiser!

By this point in the war they have a pretty good amount, but those are large and fast ones. It's definitely a blow. Note, though, that you can transport fuel on normal cargo vessels in this game at a reduced space efficiency. Some consider it gamey and it's apparently a common house rule in PBEM games to not allow it.

IIRC some dudes claim that there isn't evidence that they ever did it that way irl other than for short hops at the end of the supply chain. I think the concern is about people loading up xAKs in the early war when you are really short on tankers and using it to build a big stockpile at Noumea. I'm with you though, I do it in my game.

Hmm maybe they never shipped oil in barrels because the Japanese never sank three quarters of their tanker fleet, so there was no need.

My bet is that the AI will base the nuke-trained bomber group in Vladivostok (once Soviets activate) and have MiG-3s escort the Enola Gay on its critical mission to eliminate Tokyo Bay Fortress.

We lose a plane in Burma. A strike on our carriers is driven off. Actually, that's my surface raiders. Crap. Curse their ability to occasionally get hits. The damage is minor though.

Mogami wasn't even hit by the bombers and it has more damage than anything else. Allies are going to have to do better than that if they want to sink the invincible IJN.

15 January 1945 Japanese destroyer Hatakaze and fast transport T-14 sunk in Takao's harbor and destroyer Tsuga sunk in the Pescadores, all by carrier aircraft. U-482 totaled CVE HMS Thane in the Firth of Clyde with a homing torpedo.

This is not a great start to the day. It gets better though! Flee before your gods, puny mortals! Like shooting fish in a barrel. Most of the bombing is them hitting empty bases today. I know the game doesn't count the landing craft as ships, but I see blowing them up as important – mainly because it limits their ability to perform successful assaults on my holdings. and my god, am I ruining that ability!

We've not had a superfort kill in a while. As someone mentioned in thread, I have no idea how they get men to board planes to it Rabaul – they do no damage and lose a couple of planes a day when they do it. Now this I need to respond to – this is a light or escort carrier by the strike size. 'Tis a good day in Burma. As birthdays go, that will do. The carriers will strike north to see if they can get that task force near Truk.

16 January 1945 The Soviet destroyer Dyeyatelny (ex-HMS Churchill, ex-USS Herndon, one of the destroyers-for-bases ships) succumbs to U-997's homing torpedo in the Kola Inlet. Also, happy third birthday to my dad, who has made it out of the camp by now. 17 January 1945 USS Tautog torpedoes the Japanese fast transport T-15 off Kagoshima.

There were somewhere over 3,000 LCTs alone built during the war. Yeah, even accounting for the Atlantic/Pacific split (which was not an even divide) it's by far that latter point.
