I'm glad Hatsuu's back I hope NISA don't gently caress it up I want a PC release, but will buy the PS4 version given there's no save import feature (which by the way? ridiculous, you've been able to import your saves from Sky all the way forward, the disconnect is dumb, even if it gave you nothing but the odd scene. That's my hot trails take - it's sure as poo poo not as spicy as "Rean's a better protagonist than Estelle" because lol @ that take.

So for those that haven’t played the crossbill arc. Are you going to still play CS 3 when it comes out? I’m thinking of waiting at least until we can get a feel on how long, if ever, we will have a good localization or both games, professional or fan made.

If it were XSEED they'd probably shenanigan it by using meteorological Fall (September 23 - December 22), but for most people it's just september 1 - november 30

I like Rean a lot, he's sincere and cares a ton about the people around him and goes out of the way to do things for them, but he's also not completely ignorant to their faults or anything. He wants people to be better than they are, wants to be a pillar of support for them. He's not the most dynamic character in the world or anything but he's a sweet character. I think Estelle's theoretically a better character since she's way more energetic but the issue is Sky 1 and 2 so rarely let her actually lead the plot. In Sky 1 Josh is berating her at every chance he gets and in Sky 2 the game's constantly cutting away to Josh, and Agate or Schera is leading the party for half the game, and then she's the only one who has literally no investment in the Ouroboros stuff so she just gets to stand to the side while Zin or Schera have big moments. There's barely a moment where she isn't treated like she's 12 or like a side character. Anyway regardless of your opinion of Rean, him being a teacher is a new angle for him that will probably bring out different personality traits and give him a different dynamic with the characters around him, so like, give it a shot at the very least. If you go into the game going 'I hate Rean' you're gonna hate Rean.

I mean Rean basically acts as the surrogate Teacher for most of the first two games so I don’t see what could be different. Just makes what he already does a little bit less annoying. Because the only real personality traits I can think of for Rean is kind of nice (which is like 90% of JRPG protagonists)and really annoying if you has to interact with him for any length of time.

I don't hate Rean, but I'm not a fan of how everyone else's personality and goals tends to get submerged into agreeing with Rean completely - even when Rean is not actually saying anything of substance or is denying reality. This is particularly glaring in Cold Steel 2, where the entire class is of a hive-mind about Crow without regard to what Crow did and what the real-world consequences of those actions would most likely be. Even Gaius, whose biggest defining moment in CS 1 was the monologue about how he loves Nord so much that he left it to protect its peace. The ILF, under Crow's leadership, was trying to use his home as a battlefield, but Gaius says not one word about that in CS 2, because that would be Having A Different Opinion Than Rean, and we can't have that. Even adults with actual life experience fall silent in the face of Rean's Protagonist Speech powers. His substance-free generic anime speech in CS 2 to Olivert and Arseid in the extended sequence of cutscenes at the start of Act 2, despite saying nothing, somehow convinces them to turn over control of the airship to the students. I wouldn't be complaining about that scene so much except that a few minutes later in that same cutscene chain, there's a second scene in the same room where Class VII actually DOES set a somewhat limited and concrete goal. That was what should have been said in the FIRST scene. *** I liked Estelle because you see her growth better, and there's a clear difference between Sky FC Estelle, Sky SC Estelle, and even Sky The Third Estelle.

Character nuance is wonderful, but I have a feeling a lot of it has to be subsumed into plot as less significant or outright cast aside, for the purpose of finishing development of a video game I'm very hopeful that Falcom has a stronger vision for the CS series as of 3, and that the writing follows it

I mean it isn’t Reans fault that he can’t carry a game by himself either,that’s why I think adding a coprotagonist would have been ideal to take some of the weight off his shoulders and blunt some of his more annoying traits.

The new class 7 are basically written better because the core is smaller, but also the surrounding cast is able to breathe and do their own stuff.

Well, Juna (one of the characters in new Class VII, pink haired girl) is sort of the protagonist for an entire chapter of 4 but Rean's still the main character for all of 3 and most of 4.

Rean still plays the lead, it's just the other new Class VII members play secondary leads depending on the chapter. To the point where I'd consider Altina the heroine of the third game, and Juna the fourth... >_>
