I don't know why, but all of a sudden I feel really bad for that coin up in the first room. Just sitting there, watching our heroes dispatch all the enemies thinking "I'm sure they'll come back for me as soon as they're done :)."

That was close! There is something metaphysically satisfying in a Skeleton being punched so hard into a Sarcophagus that it dies again.
Gloomhaven Trivia Time: why was the Living Bones killed by Rocky's attack?
Answer: a NULL or NULL(CURSE) attack modifier reduces any incoming attack value to 0. This only applies to the attack itself, though, not to the rest of the attack action. It doesn't stop the PUSH, of course, but it doesn't even prevent the additional 2 Damage, since those are part of the attack action, but not part of the attack the NULL modifier is tied to. SHIELD only reduces attack damage as well and does not apply to other effects of the attack action.


Without the MUDDLE effect, Master Splinter would have lost 3HP instead of one. Not a bad deal!

The zombies have all clumped up. Our players must make good use of AOE and positioning to dance around with them and avoid their counter attacks.

PIERCE allows an attack to ignore up to X points of SHIELD the target has. In this case, it has made the difference between a dead or a dead-dead skeleton :skeltal:it's an undead joke:skeltal:

:ese: Master Splinter can make things very, very dead. Stunned AND dead.


Well, that was a very impressive round from our party. The three biggest threat are dead...now only an army of moldy zombies stands between our heroes and the loot victory!

Well if it makes you feel better, it's in good company...there are 3 coin tokens in the very first room, one for each Bandit Archer that once was there. In fact, the only token looted so far belonged to the single non elite Archer in Room 2.

I'm pretty sure you don't know what I mean, haha. I guess it doesn't really matter that much, though. I'll just go at the faster of my two initiatives and then see what everyone else is planning to do. I'll be able to do what I want this turn even if both of you go before me AND kill every enemy you target, so it's not really a problem.

Right now I'm worried that I won't get the last two ticks of my Warding Strength for the experience. That's a strange thought given how early I popped it.

EDIT: Orders in. I changed my mind very slightly and am going relatively slowly instead of relatively quickly. I'm still going to hit at least one zombie and maybe push them around a little bit, depending on how the round shapes up.

Master Splinter, I'm going to be disarming the zombies this turn, so there's no need to go invisible. If you'd like, do you mind standing on the southern coin and stabbing Zombie 5 instead? It should make the AOE more efficient- if you kill zombie 1, I can only hit 2 of the remainder.

Using the odd loss card to reduce incoming damage is indeed valuable, but remember too that in many scenarios, using a loss card can also reduce the amount of time it will take to win. That is good for everyone, not just you.

This can also be a good reason to short rest instead of long resting. If you're not safe, and you have no cards in your hand you'll be losing twice as many cards to prevent damage each time you're attacked (at low hp). If things are really desperate it can even be a reason to short rest with 1 card in hand, but I doubt I've ever done it in that case. (Even if I encountered situations where I should've, I would've been too stubborn).

I feel your pain. Last night I was struggling with an absolutely bizarre bug in Google Sheets. It was for a personal project, not paying work, but I was still wrestling for an hour with Google insisting that 5 is in fact less than or equal to 4 -- but if and only if the 4 came from an HLOOKUP returning a value found from an IMPORTRANGE. If I manually input 5<=4, it gave the expected results. If I input 5<=IMPORTRANGE(...) where IMPORTRANGE resulted in 4, it gave the expected results. If I input 5<=HLOOKUP(...), where HLOOKUP was fetching that 4 from the IMPORTRANGE, suddenly the answer was TRUE.

What the gently caress Google.

Might've been treating that 4 as text instead of a number for whatever reason. Usually throwing a VALUE() around both numbers fixes it.

I considered that as a possibility (though I didn't know about VALUE(), thanks!) but using just an HLOOKUP with no IMPORTRANGE worked fine, and the real kicker is that after I set up an alternate method where I didn't use HLOOKUP (basically just importing the data to specific cells in my behind the scenes formulas sheet instead of grabbing them from dynamic places in a data sheet), but before I actually changed the code to use those new methods, it started working properly again.

I genuinely have no idea what the hell was going on last night, but whatever, the new method worked and I'm very pleased with how my project turned out:



It's a fully data-driven hexcrawl tool. It covers weather (based off a spreadsheet I found elsewhere, I didn't make that one!), encounters, interesting locations, and such by date, region, and hex within the region.

Aside from Splinter stubbing his toe instead of stabbing a zombie, that went very well. This turn I'll just be going fast and smacking a zombie hard to earn some XP. I'll be resting after this round, probably just a short rest unless I get hit hard here. EDIT: Zombie 4 will not be a problem for this round. It will either be dead or stunned.
