The last one I played multiplayer on was Infinite Warfare. Before that was Modern Warfare 3. So I'm a little rusty on CoD's specific controls (that's on me). My biggest issue is I don't know the guns. Reading a description doesn't really help me understand how fast it shoots, how long I take to reload, etc. It's that thing of running around and using it that helps you better understand a weapon. Something I can't really do in this since one death equals having to start all over again and I either run around for ten minutes until I run into someone and find out I'm using a single shot or I die in 15 seconds before I can even grab something. And who knows if I'll find the same stuff next time (if I was lucky to grab anything at all :shepicide:).

These are all problems that could be solved by playing actual multiplayer but alas

Use the SWAT, DAEMON, KN, ABR or Rampart. Pick up concussion grenades, sensor darts and trophy kits. Use perks that you pick up, except Brawler.

Everyone dies in 1 to 2 shots in CoD. It's all about who shoots who first, so you can use whatever weapon you want.

If you're really having that problem consistently you just need to try dropping into areas that aren't so popular at the start. The equipment disparity between the high profile drop zones and medium/small clusters of buildings really isn't that crazy.

Also if you glide/chute to somewhere waaaaaaaaaaaay out of the way and especially if it ends up way outside the circle you can reasonably assume that there won't be many people behind you as you play, which helps with your movement strategy.

Here's my quick and dirty guide:

Pick a spot you want to go to while the game is pre-loading, the map will show you the direction the helicopters will enter from and you can put a waypoint down while you're there. The further away you go from the start and the smaller the concentration of buildings, the less chance other people will start near you.

While you're still on the helicopter point your camera in the direction where you want to glide to, jump, point your camera directly down to gain speed (65-70 is good for whatever) and then raise it back up to start gliding towards where you wanted to do. Hold up on the left stick the entire time to glide fast.

While gliding you can hold LT and look around you to see if anyone else is dropping to the same spot. Although it's easier to tell after your parachute deploys and you either hear other peoples or see them.

When you land scramble for a gun no matter what and no matter what kind, doesn't matter if you see another person, get a gun. Then shoot them or run away.

Loot like crazy. Find a gun and armor as fast as you can, a backpack is your next priority, then scopes/attachments, then better armor. Look up a gun guide online to tell which are for short/medium range and which are for long range. Assault rifles are generally great to have and I like having SMG's for close quarters stuff.

Try to stay off obvious paths/open fields when running from loot spot to loot spot. Look all around you now and then.

the rest is just dumb luck. If you care a lot about getting to the end try being a giant coward after you feel comfortable with the guns you have and have at least lvl1 armor. If you care about killing people try stalking around the edge of the circle and areas that are named or have a lot of buildings.

don't worry too much about those details about the guns, smgs/shotguns/pistols are secondary and should be pulled out when you're in buildings. Everything else is medium/long range. If you picked it up and it already has a scope on it, it's long range. If it's a rifle and doesn't have a scope on it yet it's probably medium. If it's really big, it's an LMG which is long range too.

You can also estimate damage/range/ROF by what type of ammo it uses.

Edit: and use headphones if you can, being able to hear people walking around and what direction gunfire is coming from is a huge advantage.

For solos I try to find a cluster of 2-3 cabins or garages to drop. Usually find a decent AR, and the makings of some good gear. Can do it unmolested 80% of the time.

If you want to get good at shooting just drop construction site or something similarly big and fight fight fight.

If you find yourself in a confrontation and you're wondering whether you should be aggressive or hang back the answer is almost always BE AGRRESSIVE, B-E AGGRESSIVE.

Easiest way to score major loot is off of the person you just killed.

As other said, stay off the beaten path or what would look like the quickest most obvious route.

I like to hang out on the edge of the circle, it cuts down the chance of someone sneaking up behind you.

Always laugh at your deaths. You're going to die a lot. Try to learn from it, but it's not always your fault. Sometimes you were just screwed by lack of loot, or wrong place wrong time.

I'll be looking to play this weekend. This and Ace Combat so GT: Beastie Bomber

Also if you feel like you can or want to stay in one spot and see if people will come to you: find elevation. Roofs, towers, hillsides that are higher than the surrounding area, etc. Some houses have attics that will let you get on the roof and others just have ways to mantle/climb up.

Hide in dark areas like shadows outside or unlit corners/closets inside.

Blackout was the complete opposite of what I love about Call of Duty. Give me small maps, short time in between kills, dying and getting back into the action in seconds. I'm glad people like Blackout and that it's probably the better BR available, but it's not for me in any way. Once BLOPS4 drops to around $20 I'll grab it because I had fun with the regular multiplayer. Not really a fan of the specialists though. I really hope Modern Warfare 4 is the next entry and that they also package in a MW2 Remaster.

My absolute favorite thing about CoD games are completing all the different weapon and non-weapon challenges, and unlocking everything after completing those challenges. Get so many kills while crouching, get so many headshots, get so many kills from thrown back grenades, fall off a ledge so many times. I love that poo poo! I am a checklist gamer and CoD caters to that so well!

Xbox goons, I'm having some weird Xbox trouble. I'm trying to set Kodi up on my Xbox One S and can't seem to make the Xbox play nicely with my USB hard drives. I have a 4TB USB HDD that is 90% full of media. I plugged it into the Xbox and had Kodi scan it and all seemed fine, until I realized that for some reason, the most recent files I put on it wouldn't open, Kodi would do nothing if I tried to the load them and VLC player kicked back a "no path to file" error. On PC everything is fine.

I figured this was as good an excuse as any to back everything up to a new drive and rule it out as a failure. So I picked up a new 4TB drive and oddly enough, it's doing the same thing. It's like the Xbox can't actually use the entire 4TB, the last 1/4 of the files I put on the drive either don't load on Xbox, or don't show up at all, but are fine on PC. It isn't a Kodi problem because VLC player and the Xbox file browser are the same.

Weirdly enough, I can fix individual files by plugging the drive into my computer, copying them (not moving) to a different location on the same drive, and then deleting the original and moving the copy to the original location. Then, for some reason, the Xbox will like them? It's the same on both drives and I'm stumped. The drives are different, one's a WD and the other is a Seagate, both formatted to NTFS and both are USB 3.0. It's like the Xbox has problems with certain physical storage locations on the drives.

Am I missing something obvious? Thanks

Gotta say I am enjoying Xbox one x enhancements. I don't have a 4k tv but since FF13 is Xbox one x enhanced it essentially supersamples to my 1080p tv and I get a 1080p image with essentially zero jaggies.

You can set the emulator to prefer performance instead of resolution (I think it just forces 1080p output and unlocks the framerate, so won't work for all games), it's in the Xbox One X Settings menu in the emulated 360 dashboard (Select+Start)

Astoundingly stupid take

people bought blackout because it's a much better version of pubg. Personally I never even played PUBG because it looked like a good idea implemented in a super janky way. But now there's a version of that idea where you've got COD style solid gameplay so I tried it out and it's great. It is the opposite of COD, every fight feels like a big deal instead of something you forget in a few seconds. And regular ol' COD is like 3 buttons away.

idk what everyones big problems with operators is, they're just a few unique killstreaks attached to a model it's not like it's Overwatch or something. They don't even lock you out of picking one if someone else on your team does. At least in the modes I play.

Hell if you're just in it for the barbies it's not even like the killstreaks attached to them are that crazy and now you've got 9 barbies with like 20 outfits and counting to choose from.
