Edgar Allen Ho posted:Those states are all fairly different and the solution to the USA’s problems is not “hahaha lol punish the bad dumb states because they can’t make metropolis and vote bad wrong” Letting the Confederacy split off would've solved it. The US wouldn't have Texas dragging it down, and the CS would've been so reactionary it would collapse in communist revolution like tsarist Russia. Just imagine, the North blocked from doing an imperialism in Latin America, while the South flourishes under Marxist-Longism.

the town I grew up in has a lovely flag that's only better than the Provo one because they hired a better corporate logo maker; it still has all the sterility of a pharmaceutical advertisement- I guess it's fitting symbology given that the region didn't really blow up until 1980-2000 the town I live in now has a fuckin great flag by comparison, telling the story of how slavers burned the town down but abolitionists just did what they always did after past lesser raids and rebuilt "From ashes to immortality" we got a flags thread somewhere or what

Carbon dioxide posted:Is using Latin letters in Korea as exotic as using Chinese symbols in the west? not really, no. every south korean learns some english in school, whereas few westerners ever learn to read any asian language, so there's a very different level of cultural familiarity with the script. also it's hard to do "this inscrutable pictogram encompasses the distilled wisdom of the ancients" when you only have 26 letters to work with

How big was the aboriginal population in 1840, and would it be visibly different from 0 if counted? For that matter, how big is it now and is it counted? I’m more bothered by the specific year values without corresponding ticks on the axis, frankly.

Estimates from 300k-1m in 1788, and yes they're counted as a census category today, population of 786k in 2016 when we completed the last count.
