those are all pretty  ways to go, lol.

Black metal might have the cake as a genre, just because frozen Norway and insane right wing = death?

It's prob morbid, but I'd rather have a rube-goldbergian weed mishap that makes people laugh, at least my death could then inspire band/album/song names like The Suffocating Nug or Necroponics.

I saw Mastodon tonight for the first time in a few years. They were soooooo much better than the last time they played in Dublin.
I didn't recognise some of their newer stuff (I kinda lost interest after The Hunter) but the Leviathan/Crack the Skye stuff was unreal.
They also brought out Scott Kelly to do vocals for almost a third of their entire 2hr set and he absolutely killed it.
Would highly recommend going if they pass you.

As far as I can tell they’ve gotten way better live. From old footage it was always either the entire band locked in perfect or solid music with completely hosed vocals. It’s nice that they’ve got things figured out as of late. I need to see them eventually. They also need to announce a new album soon because I’ve really enjoyed their last few.

I know this isn't extremely Doom or Sludge, but I haven't seen Yawning Man's new album mentioned in here yet.
edit: gently caress Stoned Meadow of Doom

I didn't even realize they were still together and have been quietly putting out albums the whole time.

There was discussion a few pages back about how people got into listening to this kind of stuff, and a bunch of people mentioned starting with QOTSA, Kyuss, and other desert rock. I saw a pretty good documentary called Lo Sound Desert back in November about the desert music scene and have been listening to Yawning Man, Brant Bjork, Fu Manchu, Nebula, and Fatso Jetson since then. It's on Amazon Prime right now.

Here's some Fatso Jetson that I enjoyed.

There was a ton of musician crossover between the original Palm Desert bands, so Mario Lalli showed up all over the place, like on this song that eventually became a classic QOTSA song.

They were so good when I saw them a couple years ago. I try not to fanboy too hard these days, but getting the chance to shake Mario's hand and have a brief chat was definitely a "holy poo poo" moment.

His guest vocal on the first Brant solo album has long been a favorite of mine: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJ8N7aOHN9Q

Nice! We get them in Tampa on Monday and depending on what I hear from my Orlando buddies I may wind up double-dipping. I've never gotten to see them before so I'm pretty stoked.

In Florida news Hollow Leg just put out a new record that's some good ol' Florida sludge. Junior Bruce shares some members and they were recording stuff at the end of December, so there'll be even more sludge coming. And because why not Bloodlet, the old hardcore band some of them used to play with in the 90s has also recorded new material recently.

I'm super stoked for Austin Terror Fest. Pig Destroyer is a bucket list band for me, but Indian is one of those bands I thought I'd never get to see live. Plus Magus was one of my favorite records this year, so getting to see Thou tour on it will be great. The only other time I saw them I missed half of their set because I was working. Also Bongripper AND Bongzilla.
