Okay I was out in the cold for a couple hours which made me feel like coming in and eating a pound of 'dines. Searam brand from Ecuador, big oval can, packed in tomato sauce "with chile". Big meaty pacific sardines, a lot like the ones Wild Planet packs in olive oil. Not packed real tight so lot of the weight was actually the pretty decent tomato sauce, only a slight hint of chile. Not bad for two and a half bucks.

That cat has the same look of "leave me alone with my dines" that I do when I have some. Zoe posted:Finally pulled the trigger on a case of KO dines in Tapatio from Amazon since they seem to just be impossible to find here. I like KO, I like Tapatio, hopefully this can't go wrong because I'm gonna have 12 cans to get through. I may have to do the same thing with the peppercorn KO dines, since I can't find any locally. Reviews suggest they have too much pepper, but that appeals to me. I love me some black pepper.

The peppercorn ones are fantastic, whoever these reviewers are, they're bad and wrong and should be ignored.

I'm gonna eat all the tiny fishies wherever they're from nah for real though I'll try to be responsible. I do eat a lot of 'em isaboo fucked around with this message at 05:31 on Feb 1, 2019 |

Pacific fish stocks have been on a downward slope since the mid 90s, we are so hosed.

My takeaway from this is that Californians should eat more sea lion and less sardine.

Are people talking about sardines???? Oh yes! They are the best fish! You gut and behead them, butterfly them out, and grill them for, like, a few minutes. Then munch them up. And they are amazing! Even the little rib bones, if you don't catch them all, are so fine you can just chew them. Sure, a little lemon juice is nice, but they don't need it. They are the best fish. I'd put them above the best trout and tuna and salmon any day. No question. Sardines all the way.

Why would you compare Tapatio to Louisiana? They’re different types of hot sauces. I like them both. Do you also hate Cholula and Valentina? You’re missing out.

Had the good fortune at work today to find one coworker left me a tomato, and another a tin of dines. Dines. DINES! Bruns jalapeno dines. Mmm mm. I'm a spice guy. Yknow, hahaha, nothing like ghost peppers! Srirach-howdoyoupronounceit? sauce is really too much as well. But, good golly, Bruns jalapeno dines just do it for me. But how do I make a meal fit for this sPICY MAN? Hwell being a dad, who very often stands at my sink in my underwear placing cool fishes in my gullet like Godzilla to lowly humans, stole a Styrofoam bowl and mismatched fork and knife from our R&R committee and had a LOVELY MEAL!

Roki B posted:I have some sardines now, but my local doesn't carry kipper snacks anymore. Assuming you're asking about 'dine brands, and not which Kippers to order from Amazon: King Oscar is the universally accepted "You can find it everywhere, it's not super expensive, and it's generally always good" answer. Their "Tiny Tots" are the undisputed tiny-fish-in-a-can gold standard for judging other 'dines by. Season is generally always good, and usually cheaper than KO, but you might not be able to find it everywhere. Brunswick and Beachcliff ok in most cases, and usually really cheap (below $2 a tin), but they can be on the mushy side, and they also tend to have three big 'dines in the can. Chicken of the Sea is dirt cheap, but is also fishy as gently caress (even when compared to other sardines), and generally has poor texture. These are good 'dines to share with the dog. I feel like Beach Cliff is better than people usually give them credit for. I mean, nothing to get excited about, but not bad and hell it's hard to complain when I can get them for under a dollar.

I mean, nothing to get excited about, but not bad and hell it's hard to complain when I can get them for under a dollar. There's nothing wrong with them, they're a good value sardine. They just aren't as great as some others. Roki B posted:I meant kippers but that's a very good writeup In kippers, I like the Season brand for the value. They make a really good smoked kipper with cracked black pepper that is the bomb if you squirt a little lemon juice on it. KO's always a solid pick, but I give the edge to Season when it comes to kippers, just for the value (often $1.50 if you get them on a good sale.) I haven't had Brunswick kippers in a long while, but I seem to recall being irritated by the variation in quality of their stuff. Sometimes they would be pretty good (a little softer, a littler oilier than Season, but still good), and sometimes they would be really sub-par with a heavy "old fish" odor and mostly "bits and pieces" of tail meat.

For me I'd say Bela > King Oscar > Wild Planet > Season > Reese > Brunswick Gourmet Filets > Brunswick > Chicken Of The Sea > Beach Cliff Reese brand is probably on par with Season; I need to try Reese more often. They also have smoked oysters and such. Wild Planet is usually overpriced where I'm at, Belas are hard to find near me, and King Oscar is usually a tad bit more so I regularly eat Season Brand in Olive oil. Although this week KO was on sale so I stocked up on those (18 cans!) Trader Joe's Mackerel is god tier but KO mackerel is really good Crown Prince Kippered Herring is good but I didn't like the Bar Harbor can I tried Wild Planet White Anchovies are absolutely incredible imo and probably my favorite canned fishies Never had Polar anything
