Yes, I know I'm old, get off my fucking lawn so I can yell at these clouds.

It's also worth noting that the enemy scaling is suuuuuper broken in a lot of the old missions. I had a klingon alt that was max level from boffing and admiralty that I decided to go through the campaign with for shits and giggles and it was basically impossible. T6 ship, decent weapons, good enough build, and it was just vaporized in seconds by the bullshit that you're supposed to curb stomp as a lvl 1

Quantum Phase weapons are pretty good. For Deflector, Engine, Core and Shield you could look at Quantum Phase, Solenae, Breen or Jem’Hadar sets. I could also hook you up with an Aegis set.

SET CHAT!

There's a couple sets that synergize well with one another but they heavily favor phasers or disruptors.

Phasers!

Torpedo + Console: torpedo spread with the 2-piece will absolutely wreck shields.
Quantum Phase Catalysts from "Sunrise"
+
Weapon + Console: shoot faster, fly faster and get some nice EPS from the console. You can slot the omni AND a regular omni
Trilithium-Laced Weapony from "Beyond The Nexus"

Disruptors!

Full set! The torpedo does disruptor damage and a shitload of it. The hull pen and boost is nice and you get EPS from the console.
Entoiled Technology Set from "Echoes of Light"
+
Omni + Console The console has some nice defensive bonuses and the two piece is a big chunk of crit chance. You can slot the omni AND a regular omni.
House Martok Skirmisher Configuration from "Brushfire"

As for your main ship components:

The Iconian set still works, but there are better options.

Currently, the most popular option is the Fleet Colony Deflector (the one that gives a buff CrtH/ ShPen, should be 4th on the vendor list), which gives a scaling CrtH/D buff with your current HP. Up to 4% CrtH and 15% CrtD when you're at 100% HP. Can also be Re-Engineered to have mods that work better for your build.

Engine wise, the Competitive Rep engines are very good due to having a built in mini-evasive that triggers when you hit certain abilities. There's versions here that trigger off of drain/ control, weapon enhancements (like FAW/CSV/etc), and heals. I'd recommend going for the heals version, as that will give you more control of when it's active.

Core wise, do whatever you want really. Fleet Spire one works well still, Terran rep one can do ok if you're constantly in combat for a few minutes (takes 1m to build up), and the Competitive one is popular for the 3pc with the Engine/ Shield, which gives you some bonus Resistance.

Shield wise, Iconian still works, but the Competitive with the 3pc ECS is popular. Either the CrtH or MaxHP variants of the shield will work.

It's this:

DancingShade posted:

Punters want Enterprises, Defiants and stuff because they liked the old shows. STD is basically a bomb so the purchase demand of STD in-game products is simply going to be that much lower.

Look at how amazingly popular the DS9 expansion was with the players and how much of a wet fart the Disco stuff was. Completely independently of the actual quality of the content, people were just happy to have more stories involving the DS9 locations, DS9 crew, and DS9 voice actors. They also managed to fold it into the tzenkethi poo poo in a way that actually worked, which retroactively made the whole Lukari arc more interesting. Oh, and in doing so they slotted the whole thing into a neat little rare niche of ST lore that wasn't explored to death by a TV show or a movie or a bunch of awful books. It massively filled out the Klingon lore using a few small hooks from basically one episode of DS9 where worf finds a sword. Looked at from a stand point of doing good fan service while also not freaking out the suits at CBS it threaded a needle really cleverly. Oh, and it all involves all the fans' favorite series and favorite setting.

It wasn't a masterpiece, but it was just good old fashioned fun fan service. That's what the community wants at this point and that's not a bad thing. It was refined nostalgia snorted off convention cosplay titties.

Then, right on the heels of what was probably the best direction they'd taken this thing in since basically forever . . . they have to go balls deep on a property that's controversial at best with the kind of trek fans who are into it enough to play an MMO. Worse, it's a story that a lot of people are simply indifferent to since they just aren't watching it due to CBS on deman.
Even ignoring that aspect it's a story that's still being told with characters that we're still getting to know. No one does an embarrassingly dorky "OOOH" when they see the back of Tilly's head and then hear her voice. Major Kira? Odo? Even loving Nog? Yeah, you're going to get that. Not even because the characters and the stories they were in are that much better than disco (they are) but because they're a beloved thing.

I'm sure some CBS exec though this was going to drive engagement with Disco and get people to watch it, but really it's just driving what few people still bother logging into STO away.

So, yeah, that's why they're having trouble moving a bunch of un-iconic new ships from a show that only some people watch and a lot of people, rightly or wrongly, actively despise. Look at how well the Jem Hadar and Cardassian poo poo sold when the DS9 stuff landed. If they were running season 3 of a DS9 arc and offering up some lockbox T6 defiant they probably wouldn't be having these issues.

It might work as intended after a few seasons if/when STD finds its feet (and an audience), but forcing Cryptic to pivot so abruptly, and in time for STD S2, left the expansion rather barebones. Doesn't help that anyone halfway competent was already moved over to the mtg mmo long ago.

there are some mission sets you could grind like the Quantum Phase set or the Bajor set but most of the better ones all come from reputations which means grinding their respective marks
also the Faeht has one of the lowest hull hitpoints of any T6 ship so thats also a reason

Congratulations. Though I'm at the point where I'd shrug at getting a T6 ship. I already have a ship on my main that I'm super happy with and nothing has impressed me enough to change. And my alt legion are just for admiralty now because I've felt no reason to play through Age of Discovery nonsense with them.

I'd be interested if you could pay dil or zen to make a lockbox ship you have account-bound, though, and available to all your alts.

All of them. There's a daily bonus of +50 marks the first time you earn marks on a given day so you want to spread your earning around if you still need to do all 12 reps. Also don't bother with the hourly xp projects just do the daily. The hourly is a waste of marks for a pittance of actual progress. There's a big dil/marks payout at tier 5 for each rep so you want to do all of them.

Okay thanks. Also I'm going to get my bridge crew in order tonight since I've neglected them for so long. When it comes to bridge crew should I only be investing into very rare officers? Or is it okay to invest in lower rarity if they have traits that are sought after? Also which traits should I be on the look out for and do traits stack if I have multiple officers with the same traits?

I actually picked this up again thanks to Moon Slayer's LP and FFXIV being in a bit of a lull in the expac buildup. I ran through the ToS and Disco openings because why not...is there anything more to them once you get to the point of the same Fed missions as everything else, or was that it?

Also debating making a new KDF alt because I have no idea what was going on with the one I have.

Ideally you'll want the ones with space traits, which are few and far between. This guy is good and easy to get. If you're Klingon you can stock up on Naussican officers to get the same trait fairly easily. Same thing with a Romulan captain, as you can get officers with "Superior Romulan Operative" which is pretty good.

If you're playing a Fed character your options for good space bridge officers are sadly more limited. You can join a fleet and get a Krenim and a Kentari, both of which are pretty good. Joining a fleet is also the only way to get an SRO officer on a Fed character. You can also get several DS9 characters off of the exchange (Weyoun is really the only good one though).

None of this is really necessary, however, as you can do whatever you want in this game and be successful without making your numbers go up a little bit.

I used some of them to fill out my Admiralty science roster. I'll probably use what's left to fill in my tac/escort holes, when I get finally stop being lazy.

T6F ships are really lackluster against even mid-tier lockbox/lobi/C-store ships. Once you start comparing them to the 31st Century or Cardassian set, they're an outright downgrade.

A shot in the dark, but I tried recording the next Klingon episode (the mission's actual name is Manhunt) for the LP while I have time tonight and been encountering a weird ?glitch?. It's a one-boff mission, and for some reason the game overwrites the shoulders, gauntlets, and boots of whatever boff I bring with me in favor of big, fancy crap I don't want them wearing. It's happening with any boff I bring.

Anyone heard of a glitch like this and how to fix it?

That episode overrides your costume on Rura Penthe to give you a fur-lined coat (it's actually the KHG jacket and furry shoulders). But it's also a really old mission so I wouldn't be surprised if this isn't exactly working right anymore. But it is normal.

if your fleet has a T5 colony buy the Lukari science ship with it, otherwise most people use it to fill out their admiralty roster
also if you happen to already have a c-store ship its fleet version will only cost you one fleet module instead of 5
