I remember reading about one two player game on the developer forums and the Japanese player beelined for the Ki-84 R model which I think had a supercharger and was surprisingly capable, and it became his default Army fighter.

IIRC I overproduced at some point, and now just can't upgrade to many more units due to lack of supplies, or I've upgraded the Tojo's to something else.

   Another kill for the carriers.  These guys forget their escort.  Then again, so did these guys.   Saigon is hit by multiple waves of superfortresses.   The Allies declare they have taken Luganville. I then learn that all my men have been wiped out by attrition. Starvation after years of being cut off most likely. Shame the same rules don't apply to the Allied troops in Truk and other places.   Could this be the start of an Allied offensive? Or blind luck with two units of base troops?

To be fair, Tojos really ARE good planes. Not the best available to the IJA of course, but still much better than, say, the Oscars which are pretty worthless except for the very last versions. Even if they aren't really made for fighting late-game Allied planes, Tojos are still reliable and not to be underestimated.

   Night strikes are their most effective weapon at the moment.  On a normal day I skip through about 20 bombing runs like this. There is nothing there but a few troops and empty infrastructure.   The superforts continue to visit Hong Kong.  Our Flak gunners get lucky.  Twice!  Another day of random base bombing,but I got a few hits in!

They dropped them down quite low during bombing runs because even with late-war bombsights their accuracy at 30,000 feet was dogshit.

In this timeline the Japanese must have recovered proximity fuzed AA shells from the many shipwrecks outside Rabaul and reverse-engineered them, if the effectiveness of Grey's AA is anything to go by

   The Sailfish really goes to town.  I sally the raiders, and bag a small troop convoy.  Then a larger one!  I hit the Jackpot of poorly defended ships here!  The carriers provide some air support.  This costs me some planes of course.  So many waves. These are normally uncontested.  Oh, they did have support. For all the good it did them.  Well, that was a day! 251 points gained on the Allies.  Some nice kills here.

Poorly defended ships you say, Grey? Heh, two DEs are much better than what I've seen in my game, when they crammed about 6000 men, with vehicules and equipment, on a few APs, sailed towards one of my bases...escorted by a single Sub-chaser. How do I know about them? Well seems like they forgot about all the planes based there, who promptly sunk them, just like the past 3 amphibious taskforces.

In terms of bombers the only heavy bombers the Soviets have are pre-war designs, and in terms of fighters none of them have much range. So the Allies lost ~ 5000 men, 4 or so DE escorts.. Why are so many of the vehicles/squads disabled? Does that mean they can swim to shore or something?
