This thread is to discuss arthurian literature, particularly the french arthurian vulage cycle (circle 1200s) because it's hilarious garbage trash. you want to know EXACTLY how hot lancelot's lancelot was? they WILL tell you, in literally excruciating detail. Norris Lacey translation circa 1995 (? I think.) The French Arthurian Vulgate cycle was "translated" by Thomas Malory into the Le Morte d'Arthur, which is the foundation for every Arthurian thing you're likely to be familiar with, up to and including

It's true, King Arthur stuff is hilariously poorly written and very gay A lot of people believe that the majority of original translations had Lancelot just outright as a homosexual, due primarily to the fact that he has several male lovers and only one female lover, who was added later and is generally a huge point of contention.

hrm yes thanks for these images of giant blocks of text that I'm definitely going to read. After I read those images of text I'm going to look at your two lines of loving commentary, stroke my neckbearded face and go "ah yes, indeed."

also, Lancelot is aggressively sex-pest'd by Galehaut (not to be confused with Galehad[/i]) who is hot and loyal and very tall. this is literally a modern fanfiction trope.

I like King Arthur and the Knights of the Round Table, but I ain't readin' that poo poo. My favorite knight is Percival, but mostly because La Nef did a two part album using medieval-inspired music and it's loving beautiful. The whole drat thing is like 800 or some poo poo, which I've read, and so has Blade Runner, which sort of gives this thread a hugely privileged position being able to ask people about this obscure piece of crap.

Drop that garbage and by reading the Mabinogi. I took a couple of semesters of Medieval Welsh in grad school for a few reasons and that was of course our text. It's like some weird slapped-together syncretic folklore/Arthurian fanfic. If you haven't read it, I would guess you'd like it -- even though it's like 79% less homoerotic than what you've posted, it makes up for it by being batshit insane, in good ways. (And thanks for doing so; I've never looked at the French texts, it's a gap in my Arthuria, and now I'll close it as soon as I can track down a copy.)

Yeah, these translations are crazy expensive. I read them ages ago at my library in college, and I don't have a personal copy now, sadly; even past the cost, I just don't really have the room for bookcases in my NYC apartment.

Im mostly posting here to do two things: 1) be the first person in the thread to write Le Petite Morte d'Arthur 2) these books are so so very gay that an interpretation of the grail quest is a bunch of gay dudes trying to become straight which is why none of them succeed and the guardian of the grail is both unhappy and genitally mutilated.
