To be fair, I do agree with this to an extent. The problem is when GW start shoving D level bolter porn into the setting to pad things out. For every First Heretic there's a Battle for the Abyss. And with GW pricing the blatant gouging became a problem. That and I simply don't do audio books, so I'l missing chunks here and there. A string of mini-series like First Heretic / Know No Fear / Betrayer in the setting? I'll eat that up. Churn out Battle for the Abyss, Reflection Crack'd, Vulcan Lives? Wake me up when the important stuff is going down. This thread has been great for me as I've been able to keep up with the series and cherry pick the vital books.

Cant believe i read this whole thread. Wish the eldar doctor guy still posted, hopefully he has new stories coming up. I'm currently starting Night Lords, thanks to you guys. Books i've got (all omnibuses) Night Lords Space Marines Ultramarines The Grey Knights Enforcer Defendor of Imperium Hero of the... Blood Ravens The Founding The Saint Eisenhorn Ravenor Magos Anything good/legendary i'm missing? I'm planning to buy the two Gaunt omnibuses, the last Cain and Of The Mars. And, what is the best Space Hulk book? Meaning "Aliens" like thriller/horror book? Are there any, or are they just shortstories. And finally, Abbadon just popped up, he seems like a piece of poo poo. The Blood Ravens books are pretty bad. Goto is a bad writer, and while the guy they got to replace him is better, that just means you go from "backflippong terminators with multilasers" to mediocre Bolter porn.

victrix posted:you have my attention Technically I'm paraphrasing. C.S Goto is rather infamous for being one of the worst writers that ever wrote for Black Library. On top of bad prose, he has numerous continuity issues in his writing (land raiders turning into razorbacks and back again in the span of a page) and he's outright plagiarized other people's work and gotten it published because Black Library's editing is a joke. I think that the backflipping terminator was from the novel Warrior Brood, but he seems to think the Space Marine armoury includes copious amounts of multilasers, so they show up at every opportunity.

I finished Realmslayer on Audible. A lot of fun listening to Brian Blessed ham it up bellowing "Storysmith!" while the other actors try to keep up with him. I'm disappointed chapter 5 seems to be all cast and producer interviews. They are interesting, but I thought the story itself was longer. Do many of the black library audiobooks do that or just the audio dramas where they pull the big names? I got Master of Mankind for my other trial credit so I'll see how that goes. I wanted to get something Keeble after the Helsreach youtube series, but I already had most of his full length titles in paper. I'm skipping ahead 6 or 7 HH books because I fell off the series during the recent BL dark ages. I'll go back for Path of Heaven and the others I missed later as I fill out a guest room shelf with the paperbacks.

There's absolutely nothing good that can be said about 1d4chan. Even though not all articles have homophobic/racist/sexist/transphobic/etc remarks, they still have an entire page dedicated to rape AND another page, directly linked from the one I just mentioned, for 40k rape fanfiction. gently caress 1d4chan. Warp travel mishap on the way back due to damage they'd taken, which resulted in them skipping ahead 10 years. You know how you always hear characters in other 40k books talking about the "vagaries of the warp" and how you can end up returning to a planet before you left it, or how centuries can pass in what you'd think would be a quick there-and-back trip? That's what happened to them.

To be brief, Black Library's management was in utter shambles for many years, so Abnett only did a few pieces for them while working on Marvel comics stuff in the interim. Now that BL is more or less in a better spot he's come back to work for them again.

victrix posted:I had to read this twice to make sure I wasn't misinterpreting you Hahaha. Totally misunderstood what you were asking. IIRC the answer for the delay between books is that there was a reorganization that resulted in the Black Library being controlled by the GW publications department. It was a clusterfuck that made everything miserable and lovely, so a lot of their authors(Abnett, Mitchell, etc) just hosed off and did other things. Eventually they realized that they were being idiots and changed things again, which is why they started writing for them again. There's an interview with Laurie Golding about it here.

Half the stuff isn't there until it randomly pops up in the Audible queues. So keep an eye on the black library page on Audible as well. As for Dark Imperium 2 . I'm assuming now it'll be out with the general paperback release in May. If it's ready. BL had some unspecified but serious production bottleneck/delay recently which is why so much stuff has been late.
