franglaterre nevada is silly because they got it due to border contiguity from the north (iirc), which just doesn't make logistical sense imo. so there's a game engine artifact built into this, but what are you gonna do at this point in real history California was one of the leading oil producers in the world, SF and LA had aqueducts to Yosemite and the Owens Valley, the Okies were harvesting so many crops the government had to burn them in the middle of the great depression (see grapes of wrath), and a fuckload of hydropower is gonna show up in cascadia soon. but maybe the region just hasn't had the labor and capital invested in it that it had irl? also, has economical air conditioning been invented yet? that could matter for Las Vegas and other places like Florida

I suppose it's because of how the AI calculates targets for wars, neither Albionora or Ibriz ever thought they could take France on, despite the logistics working against France. I suppose the lust for the northwest passage was kinda lacking in this timeline. I don't suppose Victoria 2 models the Indian wars either, which would leave the whole midwest region stable as a rock, whereas in the real world it was where most US troops were stationed, like other colonial fronts. I don't even think America's system of managing Native American nations even makes sense in a North America that stayed so fractured for so long. Does Victoria 2 model the whole deal where wealthy landowners tried to destroy small communities in order to expand? Because it seems like something that's pretty important to the internal politics throughout the new world, and probably doable with pops, but may also count as uncomfortable crimes against humanity that the game tries to avoid.

Nah, sadly v2 doesn't do terribly much with internal colonization. Best you get is native pops being drowned out and parceled by floods of immigrants into the land.

Mantis42 posted:Is there some sort of name generator ya'll use or what? I don't really care what my Admiral is called. I've been using google translate for terrible, terrible translations. Habeas Corpus in Arabic comes to something like "order to fetch the person" in google translate. Swap person (corpus/body) with dork and you end up with Fetch the Foolish, Jalb al-Ahmaq (not ideal, but Ahmaq is closer in sound to a name). Abu Hamaqatan is your basic kunya in form (Abu is "father of" and is usually followed by either a son's name or a concept, e.g. Abu Bakr, "Father of the young camels" who was an early follower of Muhammad and later Caliph of the early Arab state who was called such because he raised camels) and means Father of the Folly/Stupidity.
