The fact that the average new car price is almost 40k now is loving appalling. Edit: I have never bought a vehicle that expensive. My Corvette has probably appreciated back to that level because the market is MUCH healthier than it was when I bought it, though. Godholio fucked around with this message at 03:59 on Feb 14, 2019 |

40K is nowhere near median. I bought a new sports car for less than 30K. The typical buyer buys used. Among those who buy New, the median is still around 30-35. Average is a bullshit number where millionaires skew results and then marketing goes hog wild to trick people into buying $35-65K cars/trucks.

Godholio posted:Yes, because so many people buy Nissan Versas. Median isn't of much use either. I realize a lot of people who are dumb and don’t need one buy light trucks, which get expensive very fast. But you really have to try to option a Camry, Civic, Altima, Rogue, Rav-4, Equinox, etc into 40K territory. Even a brand new V8 Mustang GT doesnt touch 40K without a bunch of optioned stuff. Median is more usedul than weighting a single purchase of a civic against a single purchase of a Ferrari.

I trust trucks over cars for winter driving. A lot of crossovers come with AWD as well which helps in winter as well. I also think crossovers mostly look ugly and my next vehicle is probably going to be a Colorado with the offroad package cause jeeps are bad vehicles imo. Edit: ford is also changing the truck game cause their 3.6L twin turbo is comparable to a 5+ litre V8, but for me there's no replacement for displacement

# ? Feb 14, 2019 14:37 |

I rationalize buying an AWD turbo by knowing that simply refusing to have children means far more carbon footprint savings than swapping out a fun car for a used civic. I also pay for people to dig clay out of the ground for my cats to poo poo in.

Here’s an article about how Parkland is buying an expensive video surveillance system that supposedly flag suspicious movement or activity. I am absolutely assured that this system won’t be abused at this school or any other that it is installed at. Video surveillance in and of itself isn’t a bad thing in most contexts, but the best security systems involve physical, technological, human and procedural elements, and you really can’t put your faith in one while skimping on the others.

Same. We used to throw heavy poo poo in the bed of the farm pickup just to get traction in the winter. There was a pile of lead ingots in the barn for that exact reason. Also a mountain of plow tips and discs.
