It looks like Skin Horse is almost over, and I'm not sure whether they'd dropped the idea that Nick "identifies" as a helicopter or not. That was always kind of a weird association because he absolutely didn't choose to have his brain moved into that body and he "identified" as a machine under pain of death.

I had better give a more detailed summary, then: Nick Zerhakker was a regular human nerd with a terrible attitude until the villainous shadow corporation Anasigma extracted his brain and implanted into a prototype combat helicopter as part of a video game beta test, an idea they got from watching "The Last Starfighter." To quote his character bio "the only flaw in the resulting aircraft was Nick's own personality, but that flaw was sufficient to sink the entire project." As a result, Nick-in-a-chopper was scheduled to be reduced to scrap metal. Project Skin Horse, the comic's main protagonists and a black-ops social services group servicing various kinds of nonhuman sapients, stepped in in an attempt to save Nick. Originally, they were unable to do so as Nick is technically a human brain-in-a-jar, but after getting him to say that he thought of himself as a 'machine', they were able to loophole him into their area of authority on a technicality. Since then, Nick has worked as Project Skin Horse's transportation while developing a relationship with Dr. Virginia Lee, the (supposedly) sane scientist who shucked his brain out of his skull and stuck into into a helicopter. Since then there have been a couple of references to Nick thinking of himself as a machine, such as siding with the Machine Union when a labor dispute led to all of Skin Horse's office supplies going on strike, including the water cooler. I had developed the impression that "Nick identifies as a helicopter" was more or less official. In more recent days, Nick was kidnapped back by Anasigma and his copter body was destroyed. Dr. Lee was able to save his brain and implant it into a cloned human body with the help of mad blaxploitation scientist Tigerlily Jones. As a result of these shenanigans, Nick is human again, and doesn't really seem to miss being a helicopter. Dr. Lee, however, is extremely perturbed, and on several occasions refers to the helicopter as his "real" body, and promises to help him get it back. My conclusion is that Nick doesn't actually think of himself as a helicopter and only Dr. Lee thinks he does.

there's also been a bunch of points where much was made of him having a Freudian slip and referring to his nacelles or whatever, or making very clear he feels better off as a helicopter and doesn't want to go back, and yeah lately he's a real boy again and doesn't seem to be much bothered either way idk why I've read as much skin horse as I have, residual goodwill from Narbonic I guess, it really hasn't earned it.

my mother once broke up with a guy by spelling out KREEP on his bedroom floor in matchsticks and disappearing in the middle of the night. it may just be my raging psychological issues but i think hogge wild is a similar kind of personality. who what now i can't speak for but i know he's very depressed, so when he harasses you just think it's probably actively distracting him from killing himself and not a personal thing (hw is mostly impersonal too, he is driven by his very nature to haunt and torment, like a fairy of ancient legend)

all I know about endtown from what I heard secondhand back in the day is something about some characters originally being human? (as in this is a plot twist), and that the authors GF broke up with him at one point and put him in a headspace that resulted in him screwing over a female character's character arc and have her decide to stay in virtual reality forever? of course I could be misremembering things
