Like 90% of the people who play BR games suck rear end at them, I guarantee you will not stand out.

Also it seems like a game where you can get carried pretty hard. I've only played like 8 matches but I already got a win because I got matched with an absolute beast who did all the heavy lifting

It's specifically set up for first timers. Weapons are color coded to their corresponding ammo and there's a ping system so robust you never have to use a mic. I'm using a controller on pc and having blast. It's free, so you can at least try the training mode to see if you like the feel of the mechanics.

LGBT people and advocacy groups in Japan are fighting against those perceptions and that culture so I think hiding behind that as an excuse is pathetic

the game is the way it is not because of 'culture' but because Hoshino is a bigoted shithead who has put bigoted poo poo in all of his games over and over again. it's not ignorance, it's not different perception, he's time and again put homophobic and transphobic material in his games

"Tell that to Zod's snapped neck!"

it has been no joke about 15 years since i last played Final Fantasy IX because I was never a Playstation owner until much later and generally bounce off JRPGs, but I remember loving it for some odd reason even though I never got past the second disc. So I bought it for my Switch and you know what? I think Square needs to stop that silly FFVII remake and remake a game that actually deserves/needs it. I want an FFIX that doesn't look like all the characters are walking on a printout of a JPEG, one that doesn't have the simplest possible combat/leveling system, one with just one more polishing run over the dialogue, because the heart and soul of that game is so beautiful and fun and wonderful but there are so many little things I would fix about it.

Like, why is Chocobo Hot & Cold the most frustrating thing in the world? Why is learning new skills and abilities just a matter of attaching equipment for long enough? Can we get a Zidane that is just like one-tenth of a degree less of a girl-obsessed flirt? The characters are all very old tropes but they feel very well thought out so I don't mind, and the story is really cool, a great combination of big kingdom-level intrigue combined with small character stories but it needs a new coat of paint.

edit: also fix that loving mess of a card game

the first game is very much a modern arcade game, its the direct descendant to games like bionic commando, strider, and metal slug. a very mechanical score attack shooter. the second one takes all those mechanics and turns it into a four player co-op game with a million different unlockable weapons and abilities which basically turned it into an action RPG or at least something approaching EDF in terms of builds. it also has an amazingly good campaign that's purpose built to give you one weird multiplayer setpiece to gently caress with every single level, whether it be a weirdly involved monster hunter boss battle, or a giant train that requires everyone working together to run. but like, they could release LP2 as is today + a couple structural tweaks to satisfy skinner box weirdos, and it would be one of the most popular games of 2019

Lost Planet is one of those weird series' that changed completely with every sequel. I played Lost Planet 2 at a Capcom community event but no-one else did because they also had Tatsunoko vs Capcom there and everyone was way more interested in that.

I've been playing Bayonetta today since it got brought up in the Switch thread and I remembered I never finished it. That's a good game.

I'll forever hate Lost Planet because the spinoff E.X. Troopers is built on the corpse of Mega Man Legends 3 and Capcom didn't even bother bringing it over.

e: Capcom denies it but it's really obvious from visuals alone.

"My brain is amazing! It's full of wrinkles, and... Uh... Wait... What am I trying to say?"
I liked Lost Planet 2.

I'm co-oping through Dark Souls 2 (SotFS) and Dark Souls 3 with a friend, bouncing between to whichever he feels like, and it's really interesting to see them side by side. I've beaten DS2 a ton, but that was before SotFS and I never went back to check out the changes. I'm largely positive on them so far. Being able to do me, him, the NPCs, and the odd stranger who happens to be around in a boss fight is a blast, though the scaling seems to be such that it's usually easier for us to just do it together. We're not so far in so we'll see but I still think this one is my favorite in the series. I'm increasingly aware of how much I just cruise/force through though, because I'll have to circle back and aid/explain him through things I didn't even consider.

3 I had a lower opinion of, but I'm growing to like it more as we play. I never did the DLC, so it'll be cool to go in blind together. I still maintain that the game would be better if it wasn't trying so hard, though. In 2 I've played some co-op with strangers but 3 still seems to have a decent population doing invasions, and they've mostly been fun since we just play dishonorably and double-team them.

please dont use my post to try and downplay this, the differences between japan and the west in terms of trans thought have to do with stuff like a thoughtful autobiography being named 'the bride was a boy,' not some poo poo game where a character gets deadnamed in the credits and the director's previous work includes a game where the protagonists are saved from being molested by a pedophile transwoman because they notice her adam's apple and run away.

My point was not 'catherine is okay because japanese people think differently,' my point was literally the opposite. japan has a transculture that's different from the west's, but it still has a strong trans culture. sometimes people see these differences and think it's worse, or don't understand what's being communicated, but those differences have to do with language and patterns of self-expression, when used by transpeople. They don't have to do with obvious transphobia from a team of 60 year old cis dudes being okay over there.

And if someone wants to buy the game, I don't care. But using the post that literally ends in

quote:

What I'm saying here is Katsura Hashino is a shithead even by the standards of his country and should be given no cover of that sort.

to give him cover of that sort sucks.
