This is a little pasty white Anglo kid with pasty white Anglo parents from the bush in rural QLD. I'm not going to look up their pedigree on Ancestry.com but I highly doubt any of their living relatives have even seen a Hawaiian person that wasn't on the TV. Also POC and working class people definitely laugh at terrible names too. Everyone loves to laugh at Mckarty and Lakynn:

Its a self fulfilling prophecy. It started out fake but it's been like 20 years since those jokes started being forwarded so somebody's named their kid that by now.

No. It was during one of those pre-skit things that they did on stage, in front of the studio audience. I think it was before one of the skits linked, but I forget which one.

This is probably not the place for this observation but I'll put it here since we are talking about names etc. One of my HUGE pet peeves is listening to the Australian cricket commentators mangle any and all non-Anglo sounding names. So when the Indians, Pakistanis, Sri Lankans, and even the South Africans tour people who have played the game internationally, and have been commenting for a decade stumble over the simplest of "foreign" names. And worst of all, then laugh about it with a "hehe, aren't these darkies funny with their silly long names?" blokey racist giggle.

I mean, when I first heard it in the "weird names" thread and it got called out as racist, I asked why it was racist. I'm not from America, and "Ladasha" didn't sound particularly "black" to me, because the black people I know have names like "Richard", "Susan" and "Jared". I just thought it was another weird American name like "Skylar" or "Maci" or something. Stereotypes don't always carry internationally.

Seems like white people calling black people who are making fun of black names “racist,” if not virtue signaling, are getting offended for others and not sure there are too many motivations for that besides virtue signaling. I’ve seen the video of K&P making fun of college football players’ names—not that I kept up with this I but don’t remember a huge outrage about it on the basis of racism. If it was a white comedy duo making the video it’d be slammed and they’d have to apologize and rightfully so probably, but I think it’s a lot different situation here that probably doesn’t warrant offense by proxy. life is killing me has a new favorite as of 17:15 on Feb 26, 2019 |

I only remember it because it was weird that they would use such a hacky and stdh joke. I don't think that means the other skits were racist or whatever.

I don’t think previous posters were calling K&P racist so much as expressing discomfort at a joke that absolutely plays on racist stereotypes without really taking a new twist on it. It’s mildly disappointing particularly how in the past racist white folks have used black comedians’ jokes as a way to cover for their own racism, in particular with Chris Rock and Dave Chapelle.
