Even in The Curse Of Fenric there's that sequence where the two possessed girls almost seduce Ace into the arms of carnal vampirism. It's bizarre that they'd throw that in and then go, nah, j/ks, she's actually into this murder man.

Davros1 posted:Reeltime Pictures made DTV "movies". Since they couldn't get the Who license, they'd instead license characters or monsters from the creators, then cast actors who'd been in Who to star. Sometimes as the characters they'd played (Liz Shaw, Victoria Waterfield, and The Brig), or sometimes as new people. And sometimes as "not" their characters (Colin and Nicola as "The Stranger and Miss Brown). Wait, you're confusing two different production companies there. Reeltime Pictures was the one run by Keith Barnfather, they've been around since 1984 and did Downtime and the Myth Makers interview series The Stranger videos and the "Professor and Ace" audio plays were made by BBV(Bill & Ben Videos), the production company founded by Bill Baggs and his then wife. BBV was the more prolific of the two companies but Baggs hosed up massively with his obviously copyright breaching audio dramas that led to a Cease & Desist order from the BBC, which also stopped him getting any legitimate Dr Who work in the future. He also had a slightly unfortunate tendency of not paying people who worked for him, which is another reason why he's basically persona-non-grata in Dr Who circles now. This video is a handy run-down of Bagg's somewhat shady exploits, although it oddly doesn't mention his Zygon soft porn. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=acI7DRYFUPk

My favorite part of that is that it triggered one of my favorite things on Twitter, when a related thing starts trending because so many people are making the same specific joke or thinking the same thoughts about what's happening. This time it's just Peep Show trending because everyone is recommending it to everyone else, which is sweet.

I love ELO and I really, really enjoyed "Love and Monsters". Am I the only one? Is this like an "I am Legend" thing where I think everyone around me is batshit insane, but then it turns out I'm the real monster?

SecretOfSteel posted:I love ELO and I really, really enjoyed "Love and Monsters". Am I the only one? Is this like an "I am Legend" thing where I think everyone around me is batshit insane, but then it turns out I'm the real monster? No, Love and Monsters is great. Apart from Rose berating the story's protagonist for being a bit rude to her mum right after his friends have just been eaten by a monster, and the tasteless pavement blowjob joke at the end, it's a lot of fun and a really enjoyable look at how people can be brought together on the periphery of the Doctor's existence, told through an endearing ensemble. Everyone else is wrong. Linda forever.

To be honest, I didn't even think it was a blowjob joke until I read what the internet thought of the episode. It definitely is and it's a very, very bad joke, but if you ignore those four seconds, the episode gets a lot better. It's still not great, like, why are we supposed to be happy for her horror-life inside of a pavement slab, that seems like a fate worse than death, but overall it's a fun, goofy episode that doesn't stick the landing.

She shouldn't have been brought back at all. Even if we pretend that she can have any kind of a life after that, the ending just kind of ignores all the other people who died.
