If you keep an eye on the little "last photo" thing in the bottom right corner when you take a photo it'll pulse 3 times if you've been photobombed. Took me a while to get it to show up but my Johto dex is finally complete

So really he's really just a dex filler. The one I got was 57cp as well, so yeah he's just going in my "throw team" for PVP

300 pics in and no stupid photobomber to be found. Went out for another Latias yesterday and failed to catch the 2 raids I joined. My son got a shiny one though (already has a handfull of normal ones) yet it keeps eluding me. It's almost as bad as Articuno/Kyogre who took me 10+ times to get my first one.

The people who boo me on the local Facebook groups for saying the way to get Smeargle is poo poo are the same people who whine about not being able to get enough people to raid, or that if it's not rare, it's worthless. But he's just a dex filler. It's more how stupid the RNG is, it's like how Niantic first did the EX passes and only admitted it was random after some months of people realizing that no, doing more raids doesn't increase your chances. But at least Mewtwo was GOOD.

I think it's more the issue that you could have to take thousands of pictures before you even see one at all. For a game where people want to fill their Pokedex, that's just a really poorly planned out feature. I imagine they'll tweak it, but this kind of thing really shouldn't make it to the public, as all it does is generate negative press for what should be an interesting new encounter method

Clamperl went well for us in Scottsdale, 10 shinies for me and 6 for my wife, not sure how many tasks we each did. Plus the wife got a shiny Feebas which she missed last time. Got a Smeargle after about 10-12 pictures, and the wife got one after about 20.

Yeah this is weird, I'm up to about 3k pictures with no luck. Did batches of ten in between different Pokemons, did a bunch yesterday, a bunch today, etc Just gonna not do it for a while on the off chance of some weird bug Edit- turned ar+ off so I could use my phone at my desk. Supposedly, the first photo is the one to get smeargle ( and it keeps an original one too without the photo bomb). Folks on Silph road seem split on whether this is happening all the time. Edit: it happened in the first picture for us all 3 times so far
