The map in that is actually big enough that they have to account for hexes being larger in teh middle scale wise than at the top and bottom O.o

A geodesic dome style map for something like this. Somehow place the pentagons in non-important places or do the other grognardy solution of special rules when moving to and from a pent as opposed to a hex.

I recently purchased World in Flames for a playthrough this year, and I'll need a bigger table to set it up. Here it is with a bottle of Reference Port.

Not a bad haul. You also -probably- took out those two tankers or crippled them so hopefully that will put a potential crimp in the USN? And congrats on the continuing attrition of the strategic bombers. Come summer won't the USAAF b egetting like an extra 2-3000 of them?

We claim a privateer on the way home.

We lose a plane tangling with fighters.

We trade planes. I come out on top if you count engines. Which the game does.

We stay ahead in kills as more of theirs crash on landing.

In fiarness with the 'counting engines' thing it's a strategic bomber that's like four or five times the size of a fighter and has a crew of 8-12 and a half dozen guns on it (at minimum) vs a trade for a single fighter. I think that's fair.

I just got my Grandfathers (AUS) military records. From what I can read of the....cursive handwriting, he started in the 24th infantry battalion, before transferring to be a Pilot Officer in the RAAF, went to Canada for training and came home again, never going to war itself apart from training.

In THIS timeline, who knows where he ends up. It's good he out of the infantry, they ended up going to PNG and having many battles there.

Grey would have to kill 1 a day for five years to wipe out the numbers produced for the US Navy during the war, and that wouldn't account for the ones built for the Air Force, Coast Guard, and other Allied nations.

They turn aggressive (activate) on the historical date or if the Japanese player initiates hostilities or drops the Manchuria garrison too low. There’s an active AAR on the Matrix forums where a player accidentally dropped off supplies in a soviet controlled hex and activated them, in January of 1942. It doesn’t go well from there.

The consensus I've seen so far is that there's no point in even bothering. Personally I'd like to see him try, but I'm not sure it's actually possible.

Velius

This is a Soviet armor corps. By itself it has 1250 vehicles, which is probably as much as most of the IJA armor “divisions”, of which there are potentially three (which have at best the “type 3” tank that’s a bit worse than Shermans. It also has enough organic AA to be virtually immune to bombing from the mediocre IJA level bombers and the tanks are probably impossible for anything in the Japanese order of battle to harm. I’m not sure how many they get in 1945, but I’m guessing the answer is more than Japanese armor divisions. Once the soviets activate all that can be done is to delay them and hold them off with forts, river crossings, and cut off their supplies.

Early they have much lighter equipment but still hundreds of good planes, an absolute ton of artillery, and a bunch of light tanks.

I looked it up, and the atomic bombing of Tokyo on July 16, 1945, in GH's Allied playthrough, was worth somewhere in the neighborhood of 11,000 points:

quote:

Jul-15-1945: Japan has a score of 87,508; the Allies have a score of 163,429, or a difference of 75,931
Jul-16-1945: Japan has a score of 87,568; the Allies have a score of 174,688, or a difference of 87,568

The actual delta from one turn to the next was 11,634 points, though not all of that is due to the damage caused by the atom bomb alone

As of this latest Japan turn of Feb 28, 1945, the Japan has 80,253 points, and the Allies have 46,931 points, or a difference of 33,322.

If we peg the value of a nuke as being worth about 10k points, and we say that Grey will take two of them, then that's going to increase the Allied score to 66,931 points, or reducing the difference to 13,322, still in favor of Japan.

That puts them well short of what they'd need to just break even with GH, never mind what they'd need to double his score and trigger a surrender.

Remember that for every nuke they drop after the second, their victory "grade" goes down a notch, to the point I think the game considers it a Japanese victory if the Allies use five or six before a surrender is triggered.

All that assumes the ai drops the nuke somewhere important. Grey dropped his on mainland Japan, I don’t think the ai has an air strip large enough for a nuke in range. I doubt 6 nukes dropped on some pacific atoll will have the same effect.
