Down goes another Superfort.

We win in Burma again.

Sigh.

A rather dull day.

Thank god for graphs! As you can see, little has changed, compared to the meteoric rise of the Allies in my game.

They need to start taking bases!

They need to stop losing planes so quickly – their catching up my losses!

Loosing all these soldiers isn't helping.

The less said about their ship losses the better!

All in all, a normal month with repeated losses for the Allies, but I don't have the supplies nor the strength to attack anywhere.

So what's the status of the army you've been marching overland towards India?

And have you considered preempting the Soviets by invading them yourself?

Also Rota is I believe the only Allied base in Superfort range of the HI, so if you retake it Japan proper is immune to nukes until the Allies seize a new airstrip for them.

Bloody snipers! Why could none of my bombers ever do this?

Escorts? You ever hear of them?

Nope, apparently not.

At least we have planes in the air I guess.

I've adjusted the settings at Rabaul, maybe this time they will send out some help for the bombers. Not that they weren't supposed to be doing that already.

They do have some air support. Most likely based of Luganville.

The Cruisers are out raiding again.

The carriers close on their targets.

There is a new type of Thunderbolt out it seems. It dies like the old type.

I'm surprised how light your losses were for wiping out the NZ armor. I know you outnumbered them so much etc but through this LP, armor usually extracts a more disproportional pricing against the Japanese?

John Thach must have bought it way early in the war for that kind of idiocy to continue. The idea of a turning fight in a Thunderbolt is just bonkers.

The Privateers get a surprise as the carriers arrive.

Though not as much of a surprise as these guys.

Generally, things go well.

We start running out of ammo well before they start running out of planes.

Then these guys ruin everything by going in without an escort.

Yes, I checked, there should have been fighter support. The AI strikes again.

The afternoon starts and we begin work on rebuilding the K/D ratio.

But my pilots have other ideas.

Guam does it's part.

I won, just, 91 losses to 100 kills. I recheck the carriers are supposed to be supporting my fighters. They are.

J7Ws come into play in August, and A6M8s show up in June. It would be hilarious if the jets are deployed but I'm pretty sure Grey cancelled those.

Grey, why don’t you detach the ca and destroyer from your carriers , put them on a surface raid and put long range cap over them from the KB. Next turn attach them again. The kb will slaughter any attackers. 91 points = 10 destroyers, there are more ways to sink ships besides air power :-)

Japanese bombers are notoriously unarmored and undergunned, in exchange for longer range. Except the game engine hardcodes it so carrier aircraft have a 7 (Allied) or 8 (IJN) maximum strike range so that ends up being fairly useless. There’s also a gigantic mission disadvantage to fighters in an escort role so they die like flies.

Overall there’s something weird in the late game where the Allied fleets become just invincible when piled up in sufficient numbers - even 1000 planes coordinating to attack an allied invasion force will routinely achieve zero hits, kill barely 50 allied planes, and die to the last. This is probably because the allied CV and CVE force can get equal numbers of planes on potential CAP, and the game engine has no idea what to do with that besides just roll dice within the abstraction and plug its ears about the infeasibility of keeping track of that many planes without bleed-through in reality.
