In order to save on office costs the old office manager never hired replacements when people left. She instead chose to cut their accounts up and divvy them out through the office and did not plan ahead for when the pregnant woman gave birth and went on leave. So yesterday when I have a fever of 102 F I debate calling off but there is literally nobody there who knows how to do my job. I handle the outbound portion of either the first or second biggest account (it varies based on who you ask) so not something that can go unmanned for a day. I hope everyone enjoys being sick.

Lol I was just talking to a maintainace guy at a metal plant that was talking about how they laid a guy off, realized no one else could do his job, and had to hire him back paying his full salary for 6 months of work while they got someone else to train. Then they fired everyone who worked on ordering parts and haven't replaced them at all.

They put someone on my desk who covered it early last year before the system change. She had to call me and ask "how do I print orders?" Also she was forced off the desk by the account because of how bad she did at it. So not only do I lose the days pay and get the attendance point but I'm going to be cleaning up her mess for days.

I hate to be A Fishmech here but boomers didn't "take power" until at least the late 80's and into the 90's, because people do not give a gently caress about politics in any significant way until they're sufficiently old. All that dismantling poo poo was initiated and built up steam due to the WWII generation (hence Reagan and wanting to return to the idyllic 1950's when you could beat up all the blacks you wanted) and all the "making stuff not suck like it did in the 20's and 30's" was done by the generation previous to the WWII generation, who actually remember the 20's and 30's and were old enough to care about politics in the 50's and 60's. Boomers still perpetuated this and built it into the monster it is today, don't get me wrong, but it's not like the people before them were forward-thinking progressives.

Also he started out with rich parents but I'm sure that had nothing to do with it. His wonderful policy idea is "public-private partnerships for low income housing" Thanks America

I'd think having a bunch of facial tattoos and driving for uber would be a great way to get every middle-aged white person you pick up to leave horrible reviews about how you're probably a convict, thus tanking your rating below the magic number where they just stop giving you work.

Lambert posted:Red light cameras are a good thing. Just don't run the lights and you'll be golden. This is the kind of thing you say when you think about an issue for two seconds and no longer. Red light cameras are bad. This is because, overwhelmingly, nobody runs a run light on purpose. It is an extreme rarity, to the point of statistical irrelevance, that someone thinks "that light is red but I don't give a gently caress, I'm going through". So what red light cameras punish is usually an error on the driver's part anyway, and punishing unintentional errors is not a good way to change behavior. What they do cause however, is driver's to overreact when they know a camera is present. When they see a yellow light either they speed way up trying to get through the intersection before the camera activates, or they slam on their brakes because they're afraid of a ticket. Both of these things lead to more accidents. So it's a case where something that sounds reasonable (to moron fucksticks like yourself who never ponder anything for more than five seconds) like "don't run red lights", not only doesn't accomplish the goal, but actually creates problems of it's own. And this is clear to anyone willing to hold judgements until they have at least a cursory understanding of the facts (people who aren't idiots).
