not clear this is a FPS but also not clear that games built on the mechwarrior engine aren’t FPSes, at least spiritually:

The original Battlezone remake was loving incredible and I don’t know if any game did as good a job of providing both shootiness and some amount of strategy. Also the insanely OP sniper rifle that could take our pilots in one shot regardless of armor.

There is probably a thread to be made just on mechwarrior engine games based on those, battlezone, and Interstate 76.

The point I'm trying to make is that the only way to come out on top is to kick the Air Force in the nuts, beart it savagely with a weight and take a dump on it's face.

Interstate 76 was a great game, and it's a shame that the franchise never caught on. '82 was alright despite feeling rushed and having less customization, if only because fighting Ronald Reagan in a freaking mech suit was the perfect ending.

I'm really salty about how its immediate sequel managed to screw the pooch so hard. BZ'99 was an amazing game and I'd buy a remaster in a heartbeat. Could you imagine it with modern day multiplayer and campaign?

I really liked BZ2 and that intro FMV will forever have a special place in my heart, but it was definitely very different from the first one.

I liked the aesthetic and setting of the first game more, but 2 had an online community and modding that kept me playing for years. That gameplay formula really grabbed me. Definitely a couple of fps adjacent classics, in my book.

there's a few custom tweaks i made, like new actors and transition text. the way to do those requires zdoom from what i saw (MAPINFO and DECORATE lumps). i did add in a couple fun things though!

Head to the lobby on the ground floor, you can go down the steps behind the receptionist to the main base (alternatively right click on a character portrait to be taken there straight away) You can head to the mission terminal which is basically a GUI containing all available missions. The very first's located in America, near LA.
