I’ll bet the whole reason some chud went at Matt about brutalism was the SA forums

They’ve never talked about brutalist architecture on the podcast but it’s a reoccurring derail in this thread and the other Chapo thread

I love brutalism but at the same time if you live in a city with loads of brutalism that city has no soul and nobody should live there.

My college library was made of bricks that would occasionally fall off and brain somebody. They had to build a chain-link fence around it so nobody got too close.

Also, it was sinking.

lol every single campus in the world has a "the library is sinking because the architects didn't account for the weight of the books" urban legend

I've actually had that problem, but in that case, the "library" was a repository of biopsy specimens, in glass slides, in steel cases.

boston city hall is a brutalist nightmare. looks like something out of robocop or dredd.

The plaza right next to it is huge with no shade, so it's just this massive hellscape during the summer & a windtrap in the winter.

Building itself is alright tho, just needs something other than a giant concrete parking lot next to it.

I don't have any particularly strong feelings on brutalism but anything is better than an orange brick rectangle for every building on a campus.

Brutalism done well uses a lot of natural light, but that ran into late 70s pushes for better energy efficiency so we got dark future prisons instead.

my big takeaway was daniel dale saying the speech was the most unhinged he's seen trump. that coupled with him calling tim cook "tim apple" has made me more of a believer in the dude has dementia.
