Really makes me happy to see all the newbie stories in here, please keep telling us how the game goes for you!

Game seems to have really taken off in the last couple of months. I got a few friends to buy it after hearing all my crazy stories from it, and then a few more bought it after SsethTzeentach or whatever's video came out. This is basically the exact game I've wanted for years, and it really warms my heart to see it seemingly doing so well. :3:

Is there anyway I can automate my dudes mining and selling copper? Would researching a storefront to sell it from be a good idea? I haven't set up an outpost yet, There's only half a dozen of us hanging out in the Hub. Basically I've got 4 people devoted to mining copper, one researching, and one that I manually move between the Hub and that town just south of it selling copper and coming back with dried meat and books. I'd like to automate my mining funded research operation as much as possible, and maybe do some actual exploring of these towns I've learned about from maps.

AFAIK the builtin storefront will only sell booze and food (I've never actually tried it), though there's a mod that lets you sell a lot more items. IMO you should just move to Squin, where the merchants are, to save yourself time

the mod that let's you buy and build market stalls will sell pretty much everything. after being driven out of the holy nation I set up a nice little base in the rainbow valley, which has a constant stream of hiver patrols and caravans passing through it. originally built the market stalls just for looks, but the two groups, along with other random passers-by will actually stop at the stalls to buy grog, foodcubes, first aid kits and the odd weapon. the whole money aspect is kinda moot at this point, but it's cool how my base has become a little waystation for people to stop at.

I leave the gates open, so the odd bandit pack also wanders in, but the dogs just tear them a new one.

I'm using the recruitable prisoners mod, but I don't have cages of my own researched yet. So every so often, Blister Hill hears the sounds of a pitched battle, then 15 minutes later half a dozen people wander in with bandaged bandits over their shoulders so they can use the inquisitorium. This wouldn't be a problem if they didn't do their shopping before the interrogation.

Also just now I did that, but while I was in the city a second group of hungry bandits showed up and tried to harass the pair of workers I left behind. The dog ate them.

I thought about that, but watching the courier's strength and athletcs steadily increase has been really satisfying so I haven't bothered. I've kind of been tentatively planning on making a bunch of headway in research until I have everything I need to make my own self sufficient settlement researched, then setting off for somewhere temperate to start my own little town while a couple of folks wander from town to town finding recruits.

Are there any circumstances under which Holy Nation folks will leave non-humans alone? Like if they have a human escort or anything? I learned the hard way that a lone Shek is not the right person to send exploring in their territory.

Yes, you need a human to play the face while you're in Holy Nation territory. I think they will still attack on sight if there's a skeleton in the party?

I was having fun w/ my robotman outpost in the Holy Dude Lands, having my robot hide in a shack doing research while his human farmhands ran the base. Unfortunately that fun ended immediately when a group of ~30 black dragon ninjas teleported to the front of my base, immediately KOd all of my people, then stood on top of them not leaving until they all bled out.

I looked online to see if I did something wrong but apparently raids just ~do that~ now, which is really frustrating and probably made it so I will never play again.

The raid timer is pretty long, such that a mod exists to shorten it, but if you did get the notification that the raid was over, it seems to take them a few hours to get their poo poo together and move out, but during that time they're not actively hostile to your group... unless someone else wanders in and aggros to them. I had a similar experience with a mere dozen black dragon ninjas who beat me down thoroughly, then just stood atop my dudes while the lone conscious one crawled around trying to triage the ones who were about to die. This worked until a patrol of HN paladins wandered up. That made me savescum, because getting flattened and needing to fix everybody up, maybe hide a couple people in town until they heal, that's okay. Actual death, not so hot.

Second time around I barricaded myself in a house, so when everyone fell over we were at least in the same neighborhood. Aside from my lovable little idiots not understanding that the "hold position" order does not mean "stream out the door once it gets smashed down," things went off okay. Had more than one conscious person, so triage wasn't the panicked affair complicated by having no legs that it was the first time around.

the simplest way to solve the issue is to just kill the black dragons, all of them. selling their leadership into slavery does the trick.

I'm fairly new at Kenshi and after playing a bit as a wanderer, decided to give the slave start a try. Trained my two first dudes up for a bit and started a massive slave escape, it failed but 6 new guys joined my squad. I tried to train up martial arts by ganging on lone guards at night but it's a supreme pain in the rear end, so I should try to get out instead.

How do I escape easily? There are at least 6 guards in every gate at all hours, also food available to steal in the camp is not exactly plentiful (unless there's a larder somewhere). Or should I just focus on training thief skills so much that I can just naruto run through the guards?

Free as many slaves as you can during the night. Forget about the ones that stay, and use anyone that tries to escape on their own or joins your party as cover while your main characters flee.

Sometimes just leaving for a while and coming back can spawn characters that don't appear there on the first time through.
On my latest run with a Skeleton only group, I went to the floodlands to pick up Burns, but he was nowhere to be found. Came back later and he was standing outside his tower as if nothing had happened.

The middle-ish area of the four or five zones surrounding Hub where the game dumps you if you don't pick anything more specific at the start is a just generally fairly safe area altogether. There aren't really any meaningful threats and even the animals are more likely to leave you behind than to eat you. Okran's Pride is one of the safest zones in the game, I'd say.

Be careful about venturing north, though. The immediate south isn't so bad, but the north gets vicious quickly.

there's a spot at the south-eastern end of okran's pride, where the river splits into several little fingers, right before it turns into okran's gulf... river raptors don't even spawn there.

you can farm without walls and the copper is rich. it's probably the safest place in the entire game.

I deleted a wall and it dropped a stack of building material in an inaccessible spot on the side of the mountain. Now anyone I have set to an engineer job can't get anything done because they are just staring at the forbidden box up on the mountain. Is there anything I can do to delete this thing?

If you don't mind doing that, importing will fix the issue. Alternately, talking all your mens and walking away far enough that the area unloads, which will delete loose items on the ground. Save before you do that, though, because leaving outposts unattended has been known to make them disappear into the aether at times.

Hubtown boys went on a hash smuggling adventure down to Shark, arrived to find the town in chaos with Hounds beating on swampers all over the place. Ended up brawling all night, gate harpooners disappeared and swamp raptors and blood spiders started to pour in. We hid out in the Dancing Skeleton until our legs had healed then high tailed it to Mud Town with our bags of ganja and loot. Green had lost his right leg so we left him in the pub stealthed until we can find a robo leg for him.

After we had got our poo poo sorted we headed across the swamp toward home and ran into a Swamp Ninja ambush in the hills. Serious loving bloodbath, everyone got hosed up except my four crossbow users who were able to focus fire down the last few ninjas. We ended the night back in Mud Town nursing our wounds. We gotta get out of this fuckin swamp!!

Man getting a pack bull so that I can easily haul 100 copper to sell has been a gamechanger for my money situation. Managed to pick up a huge pile of animal skin when beak things attacked a Hive village I had stopped in, set up a shek as a leatherworker and started sell cash and gathering crafting recipes in the Holy Nation. It's hard to describe exactly what itch this game scratches, but it seriously scratches the gently caress out of it and it owns.

I sort of cringe a bit at the idea of farming copper - it reminds me of joyless Ice miners in EVE, even down to the rat attacks if you get complacent and automate it- but it works out pretty well while living in Sho-Battai and doing mainly runs between there and another shack in Stoat while getting down some research. This is my first run where I’ve lived past day one. I’ve thrown in a few mods coming in off watching a long LP series of it, plus I’m a big rimworld fan so knew before even starting that a few qols and tweaks are must have.

Anyhow I went to join the shinobi thieves for their club perks but the price was too steep so farmed a bit more. When we went back, the recruiter was lying outside dead. Went inside looking for someone else and saw nobody. Started stealing a few bits of junk when a half dead guy comes down calling us out on it. We ran from the cripple and he too after giving chase dropped and died.

We took their clothes and raided the unguarded building for another full set and other fun junk and snuck away. The building remained empty, nobody else came back. So now my squad use their gym services for free and are hoping to get good enough at lock picking doing so to open several high level safes still unlooted on the upper floors. I like to think to town inhabitants it just looks like normal shady shinobi thieves coming and going when its actually a bunch of crazy squatters doing a strange weekend at bernies thing with their costumes and building.

Finally escaped from rebirth with my six strong squad. When all your dudes have 90+ stealth it turns out is pretty easy. I spent my last few days in slavery kidnapping guards at night and organizing massive fight clubs for my dudes to train martial arts, they have become fairly competent at it.

Anyway, followed the river to the south, stole food from Holy Farms, and arrived safely at the hub. Some massive thievery later and I've bought a house in Spindle where I'm starting to reasearch things. Probably going to set up some raids in the Holy Land nation. I want to recruit more people in the future, but training them up will be a pain in the rear end, I'm even pondering about sendim them to rebirth to get slaved so I can painlessly train their stats for free for a time.

Turns out slavery is freaking good and turns your dudes into super buff dudes, I love this game :allears:

Yeah pretty much. Also you can feed them poor quality meat, which only hivers can eat, so it's sort of like animal only food.

Animals can eat anything humans can eat, but as Donkringel says, they can also eat other things, and in my experience will do so preferentially. If you have rotten meat or skin, I believe they will eat that before they eat anything else.

FWIW, this is not actually dependent on "humanoid status," as such. What animals can eat and what people can eat is, properly speaking, entirely independent from whether they're animals or people. This is how you can have Hivers who eat anything. Download the right mod and this will (and/or can) apply to any and/or all humanoid races. It's really up to you. There are many mod races who can eat skin and fat. It actually doesn't matter as much as you'd think, because food is only a consideration for the first 30 minutes of play or so.

Turrets can rotate 360 degrees, but they won’t fire if their line of sight is blocked.

Your entryways should be set up like a funnel or a hallway, with the gate at the narrow point or at the end of a corridor and turrets lining the inward facing walls.

Enemies typically will not try to break down walls and will walk through kill zones quite happily.

Take a look at the wiki article for “bastion forts” for some inspiration.
