The timeline in Dr. Strange is messy. Some of the dates on props and lengths of time mentioned in dialogue don’t mesh with the official timeline Marvel has.

Officially it takes place starting in 2016 with the accident and everything, then time passes into 2017 as he’s training. They don’t use specific dates in their timeline, just the year.

But the guy in the phone call is over 15 years younger than Rhodes, and Kevin Feige said in an interview it’s not meant to be him.

I like Skyfall as a contrast to Casino Royale. CR shows bond as an arrogant young agent that just got his numbers, Skyfall has him as a broken down grumpy old man that just can't adapt to the times.

Couple of things: 19-2 was originally a Québécois cop show, that got adapted for the Anglo audience. The guy who directed the French version of this episode also got brought back in for the English. Also, the first guy outta the car is Jared Keeso, one of the series leads; you probably know him better as Wayne from Letterkenny.

I'd never heard of this show and looked up the whole episode and boy fuckin howdy that does not let up after the one-take bit ends. Jesus christ.

All this one-take talk and nobody mentions Ascension Millennium?

It’s my favorite because there’s so many parts that would have warranted a second or third take but I imagine they had a budget of about $13.

I think they slammed the "cheesy --> grimdark" dial a little too hard to the right when transitioning from Moore to Dalton. Everyone claimed to be put off by the Moore-era's increasing ridiculousness (double-taking pigeon, etc) so they went for something more serious, but the Overton Window just hadn't shifted enough for audiences to accept a new Bond that was too different. It'd be another 6 years before Brosnan came along - by that time audiences had adjusted to the idea of a more psycho Bond, and he had a better mix of suave + cold killer about him.

The 80s weren't a good time to make grimdark psycho leads in big movies. It sounds crazy now, but in 1989 the Tim Burton Batman was considered dark and edgy because it was in contrast to the prior incarnation which was the goofy 60's camp Batman. Compared to the Nolan Dark Knight movies, Burton's Batman looks just as camp as 60's Batman.

I think the actual reason Dalton only got two movies was the studio was being sued again by the guy who wrote Thunderball.

IIRC Dalton was supposed to do more films but once Brosnan had finished up his stint playing Remington Steele the studio jumped in to hire him to play Bond and Dalton was cut loose since his movies weren't really that popular at the time coming off of Moore's run. The Dalton Bond films only really got popular later on when people realized what they were going for.

"At the 1993 Indianapolis 500, winner Emerson Fittipaldi, who owned and operated an orange grove, notoriously drank orange juice instead of milk during the televised winner's interview. He eventually relented and also drank from the milk bottle later in the post-race ceremonies after the broadcast was over, but the public relations damage had already been done.[57] The snub led to Fittipaldi being booed at the next ChampCar race,"

...that doesn't involve homeless people.

I think Dalton was supposed to star in Goldeneye with filming starting in like 91 or 92, but the lawsuits kept it from being made until 95, and Brosnan was ready to film at that point.

Your Name is drama/romance that deals with body switching between two teenagers. The guy - Taki - is from Tokyo, and is body-switching with Mitsuha, who's a shrine maiden from a small mountain town.

When the body-switching stops suddenly, Taki goes looking for Mitsuha, even though his memory of where she is, and what her town is actually called, is very faint. Visiting a diner, a drawing he does sparks the interest of the cook there, and he gives directions. He knows where to go because he used to live in the town, and appears very briefly earlier in the movie as part of a crowd scene:

Just a nice, small detail I never noticed before. :3:

Your Name... I'd heard it was good, and I enjoy a lot of anime, but I was not ready for the emotional impact of that movie. My wife and I were in tears by the end, and it's not like just trying to make you feel bad. More of a feel good touching kind of emotional movie. It's A Good Film. If you're the type of person who says anime is trash, but can appreciate Miyazaki movies, give it a chance (its not Miyazaki esque at all, but if you just hate anime, dont bother)

For content: does anyone have a favorite director that they would include here, but their movies are so full of subtleties that they just don't bother because it'd be a long list? I feel like Charlie Kaufman makes me feel like this. Sometimes the Coen Bros as well. Who would you recommend as a film maker that just makes movies that have a lot to unpack and reward multiple viewings?
