Actually i don't quite get the logic behind all three votes failing either. If votes 1 (deal) & 2 (no deal) fail, then vote 3 (delay) is in effect a vote on no deal, since that's what happens if 3 fails too. So if there's enough votes to fail 3, why wouldn't those same votes pass 2? And if there's enough votes to fail 2, why wouldn't those same votes pass 3? I get that some people might vote no to 2 and no to 3, but doing so is a vote for 2, so that would be idiotic

If you don’t take the deal but don’t want to take no deal, and don’t want to extend for more time to make either of those viable, than the only move is to not Brexit. Oddly, May is the only one that keeps pointing this out, although she phrases it as a risk of all three failing, rather than a viable option.
